Thinking about switching from Abilify to Vraylar

Anyone done this? Advice?

What are your issues with Abilify?

Why would you want to switch?

I’m having trouble sleeping. And I am having weird symptoms with my balls in the morning, where it’s like I jumped in cold water for no reason
Seeing a urologist but it really may be the abilify
So my PDoc may try me on vraylar instead
Or also we may try gabapentin on top of the Abilify

Vraylar is known for causing insomnia.

My experience with Abilify wasn’t the best, so I can appreciate the feeling.

I didn’t sleep well on it,

Additionally, it made about 20% of my hair fall out.

I’ve had to be on expensive freaking supplements for years, still praying for it to come back.

I think a change may be best.

Gabapentin never did anything for me,

However, I do seem to be in the minority there.

Good luck!

Switching APs is a big gamble, but if you watch your symptoms and communicate well with your doctor,

I think it’ll go well.

Personally I am in favor of a more aggressive policy with changing antipsychotics, often times the side-effects aren’t worth the benefits and better treatment can be achieved but you are already receiving an approved medication with side-effects that are a known variable and it’s a burden for the pdoc to take the chance because it’s more work than business as usual, with no guaranteed improvements. Psychiatry is a game of statistics, it’s like playing dice. Make sure you are taking a calculated risk and hope for the best!

Charles what are you on?

Could be from the abilify, Clozapine did that to me. Look like I had kids balls.
