There's talk about colonizing Mars

with schizoprenics…

because we already have a lot of experience with being way out there. Jk :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Oh please
Not another Earth before we have learned from our flaws.

the first women ready to go to mars is very young and pretty, i saw a picture of her in her space suit and i just thought ‘what a waste’ :frowning: i think its a suicide mission :frowning: sorry but its jusst sad.

I pray we never reach planets outside of our own solar system. We would only destroy it, like we have our own home

Mars? It’s doable, I’m just not sure why. Other than the novelty of it, and possible mining opportunities. But that would mean one hell of a transportation cost

Until a Martian rock samples are physically returned from Mars through an orbiter and lander as well as surviving the 1-year trip return, would I have confidence in the colonization of Mars. For as of right now, I do not think this feat is possible.

yeah, i think its a stupid idea, may as well fly into the sun :frowning:

Making the human race multiplanetary goes along way in preventing the extinction of our species. It’s a backup planet.

There will of course be accidents and death as we explore, but the benefits outweigh the costs. If we only did things that were safe we would end up doing nothing.

To cease destroying our own planet is not playing it safe… It’s just wise.

its more about living in harmony with nature i think

Good one. Cool.

Colonizing mars is futurist nonsense.

We will likely get there eventually. No idea when.

Why colonize Mars when humans haven’t even colonized the moon? Eventually humans getting there (Mars) will never happen. Staying incapsulated in a confined cabin with 2 other male crew members for 2-years (1-year there & 1-year back) is insane.

Maybe in the future we can speed up the trip who knows

Using fossil fuels is inadequate. The physics to shorten the time to travel to Mars and back to Earth is unknown. There is no exotic fuel that can be mined on Earth which will exceed what is currently used to send probes to other planets. Gravitational slingshot (trajectory) through outer space isn’t my idea of efficient interplanetary travel.

They are talking about establishing a colony on the moon. They are actually partnering with corporate Partners now, to fund the development.

Maybe… Maybe… With what they learn from this Mission, they may one day apply it to a Mars colony. I don’t see it happening in my lifetime by any stretch of the imagination though.

I could be wrong. It all comes down to how much money you want to sink into the research and development

Resupply ships carrying water, food, tools, equipment, etc… have been ferried to the ISS since being first inhabited in 1999. The crew exchange of the ISS has been ongoing for 20+ years. The lessons learned from the ISS will be applied to the moon colony. NASA, the ESA and Roscosmos have a vision of a orbiting “Gateway” to the lunar surface as pictured below:

If China does send a Chinese man to the moon as planned, I would believe that the CNSA would come onboard to participate in the “Lunar Gateway” project.

I think this topic is a good one for a poll.

The International Space Station has its supplies delivered by robotic carriers do they not?

I’m sure that would be applied to the Colony on the moon, for sure.

The Russian Progress, SpaceX Dragon, Japanese Kounotori and European ATV are all automated resupply ships.

Ferrying resupply ships to the moon would take 3 days from Earth. At present from what I know, each supply ships comes in 6 month to 1-year intervals.
