Colonizing Mars sounds lame. Wow

Like lets just save earth. We got an atmosphere.

I can think of a few people I’d like to send to Mars.

It does not seem practical tbh. If they find water than that would make things more feasable.

His plan sounds a bit on the far fetched side to me. I don’t think that colonizing mars itself is lame, I just think he is overreaching with his goals. I think NASA is being a bit more conservative and cautious.

I guess, ‘Dream big and settle for what you get’, might be an appropriate phrase here.

There’s nothing wrong with diversifying the planets we live on IMO. Plus it’s a private endeavor, so it’s not like it’s tax dollars. So really, I don’t see any reason to complain if he tries myself. Nothing wrong with having large ambitions. Whether or not he’s being realistic with his goals may be another matter.

I think musk has a history of making lofty goals and not always living up to expectations…at least initially. Who knows what the future holds though.

True.

Wouldn’t he be using a lot of earth resources to build up cities on another planet though?

Lol yeah like the hyperloop. Wanted to drill a hole from one end of the earth to the other through the earths core :joy:

The Russians drilled a hole too but the project was abandon for reasons they do not say.

It may have been a mile deep or something.

Like what? Food and building materials, other supplies and such? I would not think it would be some outrageous percentage of earths resources.

I don’t really see the difference between using resources for a project on earth and using them for a project on Mars, as long as its successful and not a complete waste.

There are so many other things I’d like to know about our solar system.

Going to Mars is kid of a waste.

We know ■■■■ about Mars.

Go to Titan and see if there’s life under that ice.

There’s something worth putting money into.

Well - there are only minerals and a bunch of basic resources on mars. What’s the point of trying to live sustainably on mars if we can’t live sustainably on earth with way more resources. Would we make water - live in domes and pollute mars like earth?

These sci-fi billionaires are just egotistical to me, wanting to accomplish 1000 year goals in their lifetime so they can say they did or see it happen.

We can’t even house 100k homeless people, but we can house 1 million on mars @Charles_Foster

I’ll be honest, I think this mostly comes down to your dislike of Musk, which is fine.

There ya go. Seems like a good idea. Now I am going to Wikipedia Titan.

You might be right - I definitely am critical of Musk and dislike him.
I don’t believe in his genius. Same goes for zuckerberg’s meta-verse -
I also think is lame.

Steve Jobs to me set a high caliber for me as a visionary.

Might not be a bad thing to have a Plan B.

(Glances in Putin’s direction. Shakes head.)

He was a massive douche, just like Musk. I don’t miss Jobs and I won’t miss Musk.

Considering how badly the Earth is exploited and treated by humans, I don’t think it’s a bad idea to be on another planet

My issue with it would be how to make it self-sufficient should anything happen to the Earth
