The Pizza Dilemma

So I called my favorite pizza place to order pizza.

I wanted to pay with a card.

They said no card, cash only. Weird.

So I called my second favorite place. They’re not delivering. I’m exhausted so I’m moving on.

I called a 3rd place. The guy answering is foreign and can’t understand my pizza order.

He hung up on me and called me back a few minutes later to ask the order again.

I gave it to him. He hung up on me again.

Then he called me again for my card numbers and wanted the number, cvc, zip, and full address.

Then he hung up again!

I called back and got a hold of a manager. I wanted to know if that guy took my info and wrote it down.

The manager said no but I’m concerned.

Anyway, the manager took my card info again and told me my order will be here in 45 minutes.

Sheesh! And I don’t like giving that much info out. Something is not right.

When I take CC policy payments over the phone I need:

  • Name as appears on card
  • Card no.
  • Expiry
  • CVS
  • Postal code

The payment will not go through if I don’t provide these in my payment interface.

Normally I give number, exp date and the code on the back but that’s it.

I guess it bothered me more because of having to give it twice

I hate it when I take this over the phone because I am so deaf now they have to tell me four times.

This is how a lot of companies still take payment @Moonbeam. FYI our corporate policy at my work is that we do not store credit card numbers in our system anywhere, ever. We understand that it is not IF we get compromised, but WHEN. They can’t steal it if you don’t have it. We collect the bare minimum of information needed.

The best thing a person can do is check their credit card balance at least every couple of days. Nip stuff in the bud when it happens.

The safest way for you all to make purchases is to pm me your credit card info and I will purchase stuff for you. This way there is a buffer between you and these shady characters.

I wouldnt deal with those companies. The technology is readily available to not have to have.a human entering your credit card information by hand.

It would be different if it was someone you know, like your trusted insurance broker for example, but having some random person you dont know do this is pretty poor security.

I was looking for a dentist who would take Medi-cal to do a root canal. I was talking to the last dentist I called before I gave up who was supposedly an endodontist and I told him I needed a root canal done. He asked me, “What’s a root canal?” I got off the phone as quick as possible and found a private dentist who will do it for $265.

Except that it’s not. Our provincial vehicle registry is still on VAX systems running FORTRAN. They have lots of code wrappers around it to try and keep it lurching forward. Plenty of this going around. I’ve seen crashed ATMs running Windows XP Pro and Windows 2000 in the past year alone.

@Jonnybegood , I often pick up my pizza. But I was exhausted last night.

I’ve used the online ordering for delivery multiple times.

Every time I did, they charged significantly more for the food, plus a service fee, plus the delivery fee, plus the tip. One large pizza ends up being well over $30. And that’s for just the pizza! No salad, or breadsticks, or anything.

Plus, the pizza is always cold when I order it that way.

Yeah @san_pedro . After this drama I think I may keep a frozen pizza in the freezer as backup for crazy nights like I just had.

My husband and I don’t really care for frozen pizza but it’ll do when we’re too exhausted to do anything

Ok true I understood your situation now

This as well as the cost is why i never order delivery. But i understood you were tired. personally i dont get tired yawns

I would order via website so you don’t have to give CC Info to a human. Also be careful of ordering delivery, most pizza places have retired their drivers and now use Uber Drivers… so some citizen is driving your food around in their Toyota, expecting a 30% tip or they get mad.

When I found out deliveries were using third party companies at pizza hut I stopped ordering anything from them unless it was carry out and I could get a ride up there to pick it up. Sorry but if you can’t pay drivers I can’t be bothered to order delivery from you.

Crazy coincidence. Early this morning someone tried to make 4 fraudulent transactions on my credit card. No idea how they got the info.

Guess I should be careful what I say.

If I was schizophrenic, I might think this was not a coincidence.

Oh yeah, I am schizophrenic.
