I very nearly fell for a scam I got a text and it looked like it was from Tesco saying I’d won an I phone they wanted bank details so they could charge me £2 but although I gave my address when it came to giving bank details I was cautious enough to think and realized something smells fishy
I once got a scam call from a Swedish number, where someone with an indian accent claimed to be from Microsoft.
I hung up on them. Then they called me back and hung up as soon as I answered wth
I got one saying BT was about to cut off my internet
The guy was foreign I couldn’t understand what he was saying so I asked him to repeat and he got angry and said “I’m telling you!” So I hung up
I got a call from my Bank selling identity theft insurance. I told the guy I owe so many people so much money, that the poor sap who stole my identity would never get a moment’s peace.
If someone on the phone sounds suspicious it’s OK to ask questions. Or even hang up. I get scam phone calls all the time. Got one today! I’m pretty good at sniffing out scams. The most popular scam I personally get is recordings trying to sell me warranties for my car. Scam, scam, scam. It’s so amateurish and obvious that I feel sorry for them and I want to talk to them and help them come up with a better scam.
I treat everyone i don’t personally know as potential scammers and frauds. I never disclose personal information. I’ve never been scammed. I’d like to say i’m far to suspicious of other people for that to happen, but then you never know.
My phone says scam likely when these people call. I have one number that always calls me about my student loans. All my student loans are paid off. Another number leaves me messages in Mandarin. I don’t speak Mandarin.
I get lots of numbers on my phone that i don’t know. If i don’t recognize the number i always ignore it.
If it is a legit person(a friend of a friend) they need to leave me a message if they want me to figure out who it is.
Never tell anyone your passwords, usernames or credit card details. Always check URLs and trust ratings before entering personal information on online forms. And don’t download any files unless you’re sure they’re safe.
