The New paradigm in matter or Antipsychotics treatment, more IS not Always better?

I read on internet that the New paradigm in usa IS to give lower doses of Antipsychotics for users because more IS not Always better…
I have Seen a french video about this subject on youtube and this video tell us that many schizophren Can to be treated with low doses of Antipsychotics like 0,5 mg of haldol, 2,5 mg of zyprexa, 1or 2 mg or abilify, etc…

You seem to be talking about really low doses of antipsychotics.

I don’t think that works.

What are your sources?

(Youtube doesn’t count)

10mg is the minimum dose of Abilify for schizophrenia. 5mg is only used as an add-on to an antidepressant for depression.

1 or 2mg are worthless.

Thanks for this link Charles, my french article tell us the same thing. That sometimes users of Antipsychotics take too high doses with an increase of side effects.

This is not a new paradigm. Low doses of anti-psychotic medication are effective under the correct circumstance. That does not make anyone less or more strong for having a different level of chemicals. I found that my symptoms improved after increasing the dose recently, however at times in my life I have been on less. The fact is for years I was on the highest dose of Abilify, and for years I was on 10mgs but never lower than that. Right now, I just added wellbutrin. I am feeling more confident…

My first psych doctor suggested that medication would help me, to keep my mind from racing and she described it in a very poignant profound way. She used metaphors to describe it, I was so gone, did not believe her. had severe depression and was cured in a sense. But anyways, she suggested that once a patient returns from the psychosis that a baseline should be set in order to prevent physical side effects and studies prove that less over time is more effective than more. More effective in preventing any Genetic problems down the road, like cancer or diabetes or chronic disease. I hope that they continue to find new medications and treatmennts.

Everybody’s response to APs is subjective. What works for one person may not for another, regardless of dose or drug. It’s very individualized.

I have been on small doses for 43 years. I am sensitive to small doses.
Some people require larger doses.

This is because the hyperbolic curve response to medications. It’s not a linar relationship with dose hence more people can tolerate 20-30% reduction okay. But the lower you dose the harder it will be to reduce

this is a diagram of a scientific work, made by a doctor of my homecountry. in the subtext stands that 2 mg is as effective as 10 mg of aripiprazole. It is also shown in the diagram.

One Time i decreased between 5 mg and 2,5 mg in 4 months without experienced psychosis…and under 2 mg of abilify a psychosis started. Your link confirm what i lived.

1 mg of Risperdal made me psychotic

I need to be at least on 2mg but for total mood stabilization I need to be on 4mg

Lots of times really low dose antipsychotic use doesn’t work

you can also visit wikipedia. the receptor occupancy of 2 mg is 72% and for 10mg 80%. so it is almost the same, only with more side effects… the therapeutic window is 50-70%. i hope my english is right

Yes you english IS right…i am not american but french and you ? And what IS your treatment ?. Chatgpt tell me that abilify weight gain IS doses dependant.

i am from the country bordering east of france :stuck_out_tongue: germany. i am on 3 mg abilify monotherapy since a half year. my goal is 1,5 mg which is about 60% receptor occupancy. i know people, who are on 1 mg, which is about 53%.

Ok Médusa. And what IS your starting dose of abilify ? Do you decrease by 10 percents by month ? I decreased on Time between in 5 mg and 2,5 mg during 4 months but After i decreased too fastly in just one week with 1,5 mg and i experienced a psychosis. Have you noticed weight loss with your low dose of abilify than high dose ?..

i started at 5 mg then 3,75 mg and now 3 mg. 4 weeks between each reduction. i can not reduce 10% because i use 5 mg pills. 3 mg is one day 2,5 mg second day 3,75 mg. i didnt lose weight yet

did you take 1,5 mg abilify or did you reduce 1,5 mg? i didnt understand

Have you gain weight with abilify ? On me the first year i experienced just 5 or 6 kilograms weight gain but it was the period when i stopped to work so i think that abilify IS weight neutral on me. I France abilify exist in liquid formula it’s very good to take a little dose or decrease IS dose.
