From my understanding psychosis is a symptom of schizophrenia, while schizophrenia is a range of symptoms like anhedonia, avolition, psychosis, and flat affect. They have one thing in common which is just the psychosis nothing else, schizophrenia is a syndrome.

Square vs. rectangle. Psychosis is a term for a group of disorders that are characterized by degeneration of certain parts of the brain and cause problems with thinking, comprehension, language and various other cognitive abilities. Schizophrenia is one kind of psychosis. Just as all squares are rectangles, but the not all rectangles are squares, schizophrenia is a kind of psychosis, but the reverse is not true.
