The cost of food shopping

I was really disheartened a few days ago when I went food shopping.

It came to £180 for 1 week. That feeds me and my partner and 2 children.

Barely any snacks were put in. And it was really only necessities. Not to mention the fact I also used the club card.

I already don’t have lunch. Just breakfast and dinner. And now im considering only eating dinner every other day.

I don’t know how our government allows this.

I suppose I could increase our budget (yet again) for food shopping. That would mean cutting back some money we use to take the boys out and hobbies.

Ways to save money on food:

Use coupons
Shop sales
Plan out a weeks worth of meals at a time
Shop seasonal fruits and vegetables
Never shop while hungry
Make shopping lists
Have a couple meatless dinners per week
Have breakfast for dinner once a week

I hear you, it’s bad. It’s costing me £50 to £70 per week for one. And the fridge still looks empty. I try to cook as much as possible to avoid premade meals which are more expensive but it’s still costly. I don’t know why those in a position to alleviate money inflation don’t. It’s horrible

Eat pasta, beans, rice and oatmeal. All cheap.

Maybe go to a food bank to supplement your weekly groceries that you purchase.

Thanks for the links I shall check those out.

It’s very difficult meal times. As there are 2 autistic people who are very fussy with food.

Mines about the same

Since Covid and Ukraine war, things have gotten out of control

Before I’d easily get a weeks worth of shopping for £35 from Aldi

I don’t know what supermarket you go to. But it can save a lot of money going to discounters like Aldi or Lidl.

I utilize the local food bank and also a once-a-week food pantry. But groceries are still my second-most expensive monthly expense after rent. It’s sad how much healthy food costs when compared to junk foods like mac & cheese. No wonder we’re all overweight but still hungry at night.

Groceries are a lot more than our rent.

Food prices are pretty bad here in Canada as well. I survive on variations of potatoes and pork.

That’s an interesting way of scheduling your meals. I’m gonna have to try that.

Hobbies are secondary to nutrition.

I know exactly what you guys are feeling with this. Most of money goes on food. Find it very easy to spend £70 a week and usually its closer to £90 because I buy a bit of alcohol, cosmetics and a lot of fresh food.

When I started living alone I stopped going to the more upmarket supermarket because those prices were too much. But now it feels like I ought to downgrade again because the prices are the same.
I find it frustrating that even with the cost of living price surges, very expensive energy bills, my benefits are still the same. When I first moved here I could just about get by without PIP (disablity benefit) but a social worker at the time helped me get on it. But now without PIP I would literally run out of money before the month was over even if I never went out or bought clothes etc.

Man, you need more than that. There are some healthy cheap options to explore if you’re interested.

We’ve already boycotted Morrisons because of prices. We went to Aldi. The. Lidl.

We decided to get a club card and try Tesco.

I would keep going to Lidl and Aldi it’s just I can’t get everything from there. They are somewhat limited. And with 2 kids food shopping is already a nightmare without having to go to multiple stores

Not really man.

I’m a smoker, I don’t eat much. And I’m not really a picky eater.

I really like my salt, butter potatoes and veggies of course.

You’re setting yourself up for a raging case of diverticular disease when you’re older. The pain during the flare-ups is awful. It really is like being stabbed. (Yes, I know what being stabbed feels like and it’s why I’m a fan of kicking homeless people.)

I’m on my own and spend £55-65 week using a nectar card. I do get some snacks X4 of what I spend would be £220-260 week, but I think it’s cheaper per head to shop for 4 people than to shop for 1 person.
