Thankful to NY State! Surprise food stamp deposit!

I am so thankful. Yesterday a new ebt card came in the mail for my daughter. It had been lost and should have came in 2021! It had a large amount of SNAP called P-ebt.

Then this morning on my regular SNAP card NY state issued one last round of P-ebt to all families. So so thankful. Normally we only haveenough SNAP to cover half a month of food for 6.

We should be good for the rest of this month and part of next!

Wow . Really struggling with food bill since covid $95 stopped in CA. Plus reduced SNAP because of SSDI increase, I’m spending an extra $200 in cash for food which is about how much got reduced. Really not sure what I need to cut out, cause I’m not buying much snacks.

Thats great @anon4362788 here we have a card called healthy start. I get ÂŁ8 a week on it. It can be used for milk, fruit, vege and vitamins.

It comes in handy. Its not a huge amount but jt helps.

I understand. Usually we are out of everything last 2 weeks of the month. I borrow and beg. It’s disheartening and embarrassing.

Yeah. I am buying food on credit card for the first time since the emergency allotment stopped. I guess its not cash.

It’s sad becaise I was just exclaiming excitedly to a friend that I could afford bananas for once. I know they’re not expensive for most, but they’re an extra for us. We have to focus on meal ingredients not snack type food.

It cant be easy cos i know you have a large family. My partner and son arw both fussy eaters so our shopping can get expensive cause we arent all eating the same meal.

It is hard, what with the price increases. I have years of experience getting deals and cutting costs, but I can’t get our shopping bill back to pre-pandemic cost. Not without serious cutbacks and we already only got the basics.

I’m glad I got back into cooking better after being so lost un the negatives. If I didn’t cook from scratch, we’d starve.

And we don’t have teally picky eaters, but we do have a ton of dietary restrictions. Some contradictory. Like I am often suffering from low blood sugar, hubby and son have high. Hubby is so lactose untolerant it is near milk allergy level. My son has hereditary triglyceride disorder so we need to keep fats low. I have higher blood pressure and need to avoid salt, hubby has a disorder where he NEEDS extra salt to raise HIS blood pressure. Oh and he has another gi problem but adding metamucil has eliminated that mostly.

Thats our problem!! Theres 4 of us (5 in the summer) and we all want our own meal or at least a variation of that meal. Its so frustrating catering to each individual, but im at fault too so i cant really complain.

I’m glad to read your state cares about the hungry!

That’s awesome. Good for you. :hatched_chick::hatched_chick::hatched_chick:

Things are bad when you can’t afford 'nanners.

I’m sorry you’re struggling so much. It’s scary when you can’t feed your kids. My 23 year old daughter lives with her dad because I can’t afford to feed her. But we hang out a lot which makes up for it. But still, my family always judges me when they they hear she’s living with her dad. But she insists on making her own meals and she insists on eating vegan. But, she also insists on making herself all prepackaged foods and snacks! Well, I can’t afford that.

I’m really glad you got a suprise bonus. I don’t know how you feed so many on so little while also taking into consideration the individual dietary needs. What a nightmare!!!

I’m sorry your family judges you for that. That’s no fun!

No it’s not @TheFountainPen . It’s always assumed kids should prefer their mother. But it’s not about preference, it’s about money

She’s 23. What is preventing her from supporting herself?

I’m sorry @LilyoftheValley . I can relate. One reason we are so short is that we buy my 18 yr old and her boyfriend groceries, too.

His parents charge them $750 a month rent and they can barely make rent and pay their utilities. It’s ridiculous, those people are rich and they can’t cut their own son a break. I won’t share the things they have said to the kids because tbh I get triggered and very, very angry.

To put it in perspective, their son was very ill and they refused to take him to the doctor becaise he was “being dramatic”. I drove 30cminutes to his house and then to the Er for us to find out he had pneumonia and his airways were swollen to where he couldn’t get his oxygen up without intervention.

I will go without to make sure they can eat.
