Had my intake appt today for SNAP benefits

They’re going to send me some instructions on how to send in my documents, including my 2024 tax return (which I literally just did last week), an electric bill, and a rent statement.

I have no idea how much they’ll approve but anything will help.

I get $80 in SNAP benefits a month…it doesn’t go far but it definitely helps defray food costs a little. I use the food bank, too. I hope you get a decent amount. Here we have to recertify once each year…

When I applied I thought, “Wow, when I get awarded a couple of hundred dollars a month that’s really going to help.” They awarded me $23. I hope you do better than I did.

Yeah I’m realizing from you and @WhiteRaven to temper my expectations.

And the government is trying to even further reduce federal food assistance. :grimacing:

I used to receive $157 a month which was nice. Now I receive $44. I also go to a food bank. There is a sort of app that shows restaurants that accept snap cards. It’s really useful. I forgot how to find it but a search online might show the map of restaurants. There are quite a few places that accept the card around here. Nearly all grocery stores accept it now too.

Was accepted for SNAP. They actually gave me a decent amount.

The only thing is they want me looking for work and reporting all that to them, which I’m not ready for.

If she’s willing to do it, I’m going to have my therapist write a letter on my behalf to be exempt from those requirements.

We’ll see what happens.

@Gamera I hope the letter helps

I got my official letter in the mail confirming my benefits.

I called to ask if I needed a doctor’s note to exempt me from the work requirements and they said a letter from my therapist would work. This is good because I don’t have a p-doc right now and my general doctor moved away at the beginning of the year.

Good @Gamera! I’m happy for you.

Does anyone lock their EBT card when they’re not using it?

I read that they recommend it between transactions.

Is there a lot of food stamp theft?

I only get $23. They used to give more food stamps for my income and expenses.
