Tell me your experiences with Wellbutrin

My doctor started me on 150mg of Wellbutrin today for depression and lack of motivation.

I plan on starting tomorrow.

Do you have any experiences with this medication?

I would love to hear, good and bad.

I tried it as a stop smoking aid, way before I was diagnosed with schizophrenia.

But it gave me suicidal ideation so I had to stop it.

When I was 12, I was extremely depressed, even had features of catatonia. In the hospital, the doc started me on Wellbutrin and Lithium. He raised the Wellbutrin to 300 mg, and it worked very well for me. My circumstances and symptoms have changed since 1995, but yeah, good med.

Oh gosh it gave me such bad anxiety that I almost had a panic attack at work

I’m already on Abilify, which is anxiety inducing,

So now I’m also on a good bit of klonopin.

Hoping it doesn’t give me anxiety like it has others.

I think Wellbutrin stopped my depression.

That is a high dose. I used to take that much, but I quit taking it. It took me a year to get over the withdrawal effects.

I was on 300mg for a year for depression, it was my first year not being depressed since sz, it got me well enough to stop taking it. My pdoc at the time said it can give a slight boosted energy feeling which is good for motivation.

Good: really, REALLY reduces cravings for nicotine.

Bad: Makes my voices viciously mean.

I had to be taken off of it :frowning:

If I was one of those folks who doesn’t hear voices, I would suspect this medicine would have been a permanent part of my prescriptions.

It helped combat my depression and I am still taking 100mg. I tried coming off it a couple of times and the depression returned. After being on it for 2 years I told my psychiatrist that I want to stop taking it. So she prescribed me 75mg and said that after 2 weeks I can just stop taking it. Hopefully the depression doesn’t come back. Overall it helped me with my low mood and motivation to do things.

I got the prescription and plan on starting it tomorrow morning.

Does anyone have any input on how long it took to work for them?

I felt positive impacts on my mood and less cravings somewhere in the second week. I’m not sure if it would work that way for everybody.

I think I forgot to mention it was great for my mood. I was actually on it for several years back when mood problems were my main problem, when I had bipolar but not sza yet. It helped me get through college. The only reason I can’t take it anymore is because of its impact on the voices.

I had a bad reaction to it. If I remember right it made me feel even more suicidal than I was already feeling. But I can’t remember for sure. I just know it was a bad reaction.

I am allergic to that drug. I was not on it long enough to see if it helped

Took it for a month. The first 3 weeks were amazing. Then I stopped sleeping and started having suicidal thoughts. Doc immediately took me off it again. But I’ve reacted badly to every AD I have ever tried.
