I’m experinecing an antipsychotic effect from taurine and magnesium. It acts to “reset” my brain by completely blocking myself from feeling/thinking. Wondering what the shared or different mechanisms by which this effect is occuring
psychosis comes and goes depending on the stress and many other factors you experience. Perhaps these supplements also help - but it would take a long time and carefully controlled tests to know if that is true. Perhaps there are other factors in your life that are responsible for less psychosis.
I’d recommend you use it them for 4 weeks and record daily your experiences, and then try 4 weeks without them and again record your experiences and feelings - and compare them.
Taurine is considered safe by FDA according to existing data and granted GRAS status.
Taurine postponed the replicative senescence of rat bone marrow-derived multipotent stromal cells in vitro.
Dosage suggestions:in baby and children dairy food 300-350mg/kg, Non baby and children food: 500-1000mg/kg (dry basis)
in milk drinks: 3.3-4.8mg/100ml
I have taken magnesium long-term. It tends to be relaxing. Taurine can lower insecure thoughts and anxiety. The two together should offer some benefit. I have taken both at the same time and noticed reduced anxiety.
I take 1000mg twice daily of Taurine for a heart condition (Mitral Valve Prolapse) and helps that a lot, but my paranoia and hearing voices are very much present.
I’ve had anxiety my whole life. I have been taking Taurine for about 4 years so far.
I’d be careful with magnesium as it can act as a NMDA receptor Antagonist. Which is how some dissaociative drugs like PCP and Ketamine work. Although obviously much milder it is counterproductive when trying to treat the NMDA receptors with new therapies like Sarcosine.
I hope you’re right, but I’d be careful mixing unprescribed drugs.
I take Magnesium Taurate. It was recommended for anxiety at a health store. One of the best things that ever happened to me. I often say it saved my life.
I take my over cautious statement about Magnesium back. While it does have some NMDA antagonistic actions it is vital in so many biological processes. I’ve been taking it regularly and I would say it helps tremendously. Especially for creating a sensation of calm which is very conducive to good mental health.
