SzA? 151515

When I was first diagnosed, I had schizoaffective disorder. Later it was changed to paranoid schizophrenia. Right now I wonder if the SzA was the right one. Since I switched to Abilify, I stopped feeling down and wanting to drink. Also I not feeling up any more. It’s just a steady calm with a little happiness.

I didn’t really have extreme mood swings.

What’s your experience with SzA and does it sound like I have it?

I was previously on Zyprexa and Risperdal.

I had paranoia sz then sza. Abilify wasn’t for me. But it seems like it’s helping you hugs .

I have both paranoid sz and SZA diagnoses. Maybe they’re still deciding. Without an AD, I get suicidal and depressed though so I’m probably sza depressed type. I don’t get highs.

I don’t get very high either. I really get down though.

Must be frustrating to change their minds like that.

Is it the same doctor?

No, different doctor. The first doctor was a student doctor at the medical school.

I think you’re the best person to be able to make the distinction between SZA and SZ.

Maybe it might be worth trying to get an appointment to discuss this?

If you wrote an argument for each for and against, and then used it to talk to these doctors to see if they can get a better understanding?

I know it’s basic stuff, but I find it useful otherwise I find I jump topics quite quickly and we achieve nothing

I had dysthymia then after I fainted and started having auditory hallucinations I was dx sza major depressive type… my depression is still there but not as bad as before
. So I guess the lower dose of sertraline is helping… risperidone helps to lower the voices… and control the thought broadcasting and delusions…

Maybe you have the same…

I fluctuate between Schizoaffective and Bipolar

I have sza bipolar type. I get severe depressions and also get hypomanic episodes. Very very low and a little high. Unfortunately my depression is more common than my highs but I have gotten lots of those as well so I could never go on antidepressant. Take 2 AP’S and a mood stabiliser.

I was diagnosed with sz in the past too but two years ago I was discussing it with my pdoc at the time and we concluded I have sza because of my mood swings.

I have voices and delusions and paranoia and some negatives as well as the mood swings, so they thought it was sz.

But my mood swings are very pronounced and unmedicated can dominate my symptoms.

Thanks. You have the same symptoms I do, except I can’t say I get extremely low. I was suicidal in 2019, and my pdoc put me on an antidepressant.

Most of my hospitalisations were because of severe depression and suicidal thoughts as well as self harm. I wanted to cut myself a lot and voices came to irritate me too.

Sounds like you have SZA @anon54988740 but I’m not a doctor.
Best to talk it over with your doc.
