There’s this theory about how we developed consciousness:
Whether or not it holds water is to be debated.
Hallucinogens have been known to exacerbate underlying psychotic disorders, so maybe it sprung from this.
Just one possibility.

I would image so, they could communicate.
I don’t believe it would be as complex in the content of hallucinations. But yes I believe it’s possible.
Just one opinion, and Trigger warning.
I do subscribe to some truth in that, I’ve personally expanded my consciousness and understanding of the world through Use of magic

Again it brings to mind the shaman topic.
Look at Santa, red and white clothing to mimic the amanita hallucinogenic mushroom, poisonous to humans. Shamans used to feed it to reindeer, that was immune. They would process the urine and ingest it, holding pagan rituals, and charting the stars.
Oh for sure.
Apparently they used to hang the mushrooms on the pine trees to dry, and that’s where the concept of the Christmas tree and ornaments came about.
It’s far from the only example, Central America had their own with cacti, South America With roots, Africa has hallucinogenic honey.
Most cultures have history with them, and the emergence of civilization can be traced in these area to the power given to shamen in society’s.
sniffles and sheds a single tear that he’ll never be a shaman
The shaman definitely has their place in ancient culture-- as well as modern-day indigenous ones.
Will there ever be a place for Shamanism in modern society?
Tough to say, but there are small movements of people actively seeking ayahuasca healers deep in the jungles of Amazonia (as I’m sure ya know
).
Haha, shamans thoughhhh… I went to a “shaman” while psychotic once.
3 hours and $260 bucks later, nothing changed except the fact that the voices were now mimicking hers.
Needless to say, it freaked me the fuuck out
I tried once. Group of mine, started holding sermons, and expanding our minds. Got shut down, something or other about a cult.
Some cities are decriminalized. Which opens up the health industry to run tests, possibly assisting some disorders.
I can see it’s place in my minds eye in an advanced culture, but this modern one? I agree that’s iffy.
I need to run, it’s been great chatting with you! Be safe tuna buddy!
Stay well, llama bud!

Norovirus has been known to medicine since at least 1929, when a pediatrician described “winter vomiting disease.” In 1968, an outbreak at an elementary school in Norwalk, Ohio, was tentatively linked to a virus, christened the “Norwalk virus.”
Just because it has been only known to medicine by 1929, doesn’t mean it didn’t exist before then by simple logic. It could have existed decades before or even longer due to lack of medical sophistication, technology, education, and advancement of society; something to LOOK into.
I do remember reading something about it being in Finland before that so it could inch closer to Euler’s definition of schizophrenia or the first well known historical diagnosis of schizophrenia. (I’m excluding the cases of Joan of Arc and stuff because it could be other reasons and it gets complicated…).
Look how the Norovirus spreads. It spreads with poor sanitation and close contact. It gets into the genes and could mess with them over long term and do stuff like @anon67051439 said. Furthermore, look at British Industrial revolution like the time of Charles Dickens and I remember his stories of the poverty, sress, close quarters, filth, etc. It could spread through air, poor sanitation, water, feces, food, etc.
Industrial Revolution 19th Century
It’s important to note that a 70 year old person has a 5x or 500% chance of getting Norovirus in their lifetime. It’s a common winter bug that probably is residing in our genome. Combined with other factors, I don’t know like poor immune system, drug use, stress, etc. stuff already been researched could increase the risk for sure. I just think with my calculation we can find the root cause or silver bullet to this thing. Time will tell for sure.
I mean if we want to go back to ancient time and argue about Joan of Arc than we can say Stomach Aches and Winter illness existed since the dawn of time. Personally, I think the increase of awareness and prevalence of schizophrenia over the years since the Industrial Revolution is due to humans moving and living very closely together. Before, humans were spread out sparsely and we only have few cases of ‘man men’ in history. Currently, what 7 million people in the US have schizophrenia and 1/4 have some sort of mental illness or had experienced or will experience one in their lifetime? That’s a lot of Joan of Arcs.
My opinion is it could be a lot of reasons.
This could also be due to scientific advancements spurred on during the Enlightenment. People started treating SZ as a medical condition as opposed to a spiritual or demonic affliction.
It would be awesome if they figured out the cause during our lifetime. One mystery solved ![]()

Anyone can explain this? Norovirus is listed? I have no background in biology.
Wow Influenza A has a lot, its causing excess dopamine.
There seems to be an evolutionary advantage to schizophrenia. Which means that people with schizophrenia have survived and reproduced. I sometimes think that schizophrenics were some kind of shamans and had some status in the tribe. This is maybe why schizophrenia exist today. Another explanation was that genes that control language can also cause schizophrenia.
Not only that, genes for olfactory, visual and tactile hallucinations too.
Could it be just because they got schizophrenia after they already reproduced?
Maybe I don’t know, sounds logical haha
I was more thinking of somebody like Muhammed. I don’t want to step on somebody’s toes. But he saw angels and talked to god. Then he had like 8 wives and probably a lot of children. He past on his genes.
I really doubt those big prophets could have schizophrenia, they were too high functioning.
Maybe other psychotic disorders.
