Switching to seroquel

I just left my pdoc and I finally decided to change my AP. I was on 3.5mg of Risperdal but I had completely lost my libido and was very flat emotionally. She suggested seroquel at 300mg. I have to do cross-titration for like a month until I’m completely off the Risperdal. I hope this goes well.

I’d better not comment too much then. I have nothing good to say about seroquel.

It’s what she suggested for me, I didnt have one particular in mind. What were your main problems with it? What are you currently on?

I’m currently on abilify. I just had several relapses on seroquel, but some people swear by it. It’s all trial and error.

Yeah, that’s what I’m afraid of, but you’re right, it’s a crap shoot.

I was on seroquel XR or something new like that for about a few months back in 2008. I considered it to be a heavy hitter, like, it made me groggy and zombie-like but it knocked out the major positive symptoms I was having. They eventually switched me to Abilify at some point and that worked great. Was also on risperdal, but back in the early 2000’s. I think either that one or geodon made my heart skip or something so I was taken off it.

I talked to another sz who took seroquel while we were in the psych wards. He said that it didn’t work for him (like @everhopeful) so the doctors amped his dose up to risky levels. He was a difficult case, as his medications never worked, his sz was highly treatment resistant. His tiny improvement on seroquel, despite not completely working, was why doctors chose to keep him on it, and at such high levels. He didn’t like it much, but he could think and hear his own thoughts.

i met another sz on seroquel at our outpatient clinic, and he liked it because it came in a one-month injection that was easy for him to take (as opposed to having to take it every day in pill form).

I guess everyone’s chemistry is different, so maybe you’ll have a nice experience on seroquel! Mine was okay, not great, just okay. Other dude had a bad experience. Good luck on your cross-titration!

I only have like 5 more days of the cross tapering, and so far I haven’t noticed much of a difference. I’m a little more tired, but that’s about it. My wife has commented several times, saying something along the lines of “this med change has been hard on you (meaning me),” so maybe she’s noticing something that I’m not.

I have noticed that on my drives home from work at night, everything looks a little different. I’m not sure how to explain it better than that though.

I’ve been on 400 x 2 Seroquel along with 80 x 2 Geodon for over a decade. I’ve never really felt the Seroquel. I think it probably does help with my symptoms, but I don’t notice its presence in my system. I feel nothing in that regard.

I’m only going to be on 300mg/day, so I’m hoping that I don’t notice it much either. Honestly, I’m more nervous about a relapse than I am side effects.

I hope it works out alright for you @anon68237654. I know it is important for you to change medicine.

Thank you @anon84763962, I’ve got my fingers crossed. But if it doesn’t work I’ll just try something else (shrugs)

Thank you @Minnii. So far I haven’t had any bumps in the road so I’m hoping it stays that way.

Do you have other AP? I also have seroquel for one week, the only med.

No, seroquel is going to be my only AP, as soon as I finish the cross-tapering.

Good news. I have 100mg seroquel for one week. It let me fall asleep more easily. Not sure about the side effect. Need time to find it. And I hope it is OK.

Goodluck, hope this medication is so good for you that you don’t have to go through any more med changes

Thank you @moonlee and @Mouseymoo, I appreciate the encouragement. And I hope it works out for you as well moon.

I felt the same on risperdal. I went on Seroquel and it has been good for me. Dose has changed up and down a bit over the past few years.

I take it only at night. Can’t take it during the day, it causes tiredness. That’s good if you have sleep problems.
