It has me unsettled. I didn’t like the app, and I find it endlessly irritating when people watch it in public with the sound on. I don’t want things banned just for being annoying, though. We’re a country, not a high school. I didn’t see any justification for their claim that it impacted national security in a measurable way. It seems more like an easy first step in setting a precedent of censorship.

I know a lot of people might laugh at me talking about censorship, but the thing I keep saying is that freedom of speech is a protection from the government, not from a website’s TOS. The tiktok ban is a government restricting our freedom of speech. It’s completely different and worse.

It’s a difficult one as china does not play the same game as we do

Ours is very vulnerable to interference and I get why they don’t like it
