Stopping Zyprexa

I’ve been on olanzapine for a month and will be stopping it while staying on 10mg of haldol. I can’t take the appetite from hell! I want to eat constantly and i didn’t lose 150 lbs just to gain it back from a psych med. I tapered from 20mg to 10mg and tonight will be skipping it all together.

I see my new pdoc next week, and if she wants to add back another 2nd-gen med, then I’ll ask for Abilify, since it, like Zyprexa, doesn’t cause too much QTc prolongation and doesn’t have quite the weight gain reputation. Or to go back on Latuda since now I’d be able to meet the calorie requirement (i couldn’t when i was on it before due to nausea caused by either my thrush medication or the anxiety i was having…that’s resolved).

I’ll be closely monitoring my symptoms when i stop the Zyprexa, but i think I’ll be okay since I’m still taking the haldol. The canary in the coal mine will be how well i sleep…for me insomnia is the biggest trigger to psychosis. Damn, i wish i could go back on clozapine!!

Zyprexa sucks. Went through similar I like haldol. I hope you get to feeling better on your meds.

Sucks that Olanzapine turns people in food monsters. If it didn’t do that i’d probably say it would be the best AP. But the severe weight gain sucks.

Clozapine is the strongest AP but also comes with a ton of negative side effects.

Yeah, i had to quit the clozapine back in February cuz it gave me tachycardia and a QTc-prolongation of 521. Otherwise, i did really well on it…

Yeah these last couple days I did lots of research on the different AP’s. Clozapine is the most risky when it comes to your heart health.

Should be used by people who have the most extreme cases of sz. Cause in that case id say the benefits outweigh the risks if your sz is on the extreme end.
