300 mg of Seroquel along with my Lithium. Switched from Abilify.
Pdoc doesn’t really want to put me on 2 mood stabilizers with no AP like I wanted.
Currently suffering from ED from the Abilify, hoping Seroquel won’t cause that…

I hope seroquel work for you. Keep us updated.
I’ll keep you guys updated, but the full effects probably won’t be for another month or so, as my prolactin levels are elevated at the moment due to Risperdal months prior, and being on Abilify somehow caused a rare reaction in my system where it did not decrease the prolactin like in regular cases, but kept it elevated.
I think someone in this forum mentioned that seroquel doesn’t increase prolactin.
It doesn’t. Unfortunately you can get ED from Antipsychotics regardless of prolactin level.
I had this problem on Abilify injection when I took it at the time, when they lowered it from 400 to 150 over time, my ED went away, but that took so long and I do not wish to go back on injection format.
low dose Abilify pill form sends me into a mania so they would not lower it below 15mg for me, which 15mg also causes ED.
Really hoping Seroquel doesn’t do this for me. (ED)
Update: After taking Seroquel 300mg lastnight, it felt dreadful getting out of bed. I had to wake twice in the middle of the night to pee, and also to drink a bit of water as my mouth was super dry from this stuff. Getting up to go pee felt like I was really drunk and disoriented. It was more of a challenge than it should have been. I slept more than 12 hours and drank 2 coffees today just to feel somewhat awake. It is now 5 o clock and I still feel somewhat sedated.
I am told that this side effect of extreme somnolence wears off after a week or two of using Seroquel.
I was glad that I did not have anything important to do today, otherwise I would have had to cancel.
I am thinking of cutting my Seroquel in half for a few days and taking 150mg before going back to 300mg, I know this isn’t recommended to do, but I can’t go another week or so feeling like I did today.
This is by far the most sedating AP I have been on.
I even got these jolts from time to time today of adrenaline kicking in for a split second because I am so relaxed, and for a split moment I snap out of it. It feels like falling in a dream and then waking. Oddest feeling.
Yes, your body need some time to adjust to new medicine.
Seroquel is notorious for relapse. It seems the previous medication gets out of the system before Seroquel builds up enough to prevent psychosis.
People get used to the sedating effect at the higher dosages.
I want the sedating effect because I have difficulty initiating sleep. Therefore I take 25 mgs. at bedtime. I have done so for years now, and it always works.
The antipsychosis effect I want I get from another antipsychotic medication.
J.
I took Quetiapine for a while, and yes it does initially sedate you quite a lot. However, it does go away. Stick with it just a bit longer. Good luck.
Thanks for the support guys, I’ll stick with the Seroquel for a while.
How did you do with 150 mg ?
Been on 300mg of the stuff at night for years, but i wouldnt half the dose, take the proper amount your prescribed, and you will get used to it. It always gives me a dry mouth too - i keep a pint of milk by the bed for that. Its a great drug - so i wouldnt give up on it.
Seroquel is sedating rather than “activating” which is what they call meds that give akathisia so it should not give it to you. However everyone’s different. Good luck!
Only took the half dose the second day, then continued with 300mg onwards. I am getting used to the seroquel the next day, today I felt like myself, instead of like a zombie which I felt like after the first dose the next day.
Very good! You are only on it for three or four days. Your body adjust to it very well. I hope you don’t need to up the dose to stop your voice.
I don’t have voices, I have type 1 Bipolar Disorder.
I experience psychosis when I go through a manic episode, which I why I am on this forum.
I use this forum because everyone on here uses antipsychotics compared to a Bipolar forum where many are just on mood stabilizers. I figure I can get better answers using this forum regarding antipsychotic side effects. I figure I can get better responses on here.
I don’t think Seroquel is a good AP for me.
It seems to have made my sexual problem worse, along with killing my sex drive itself which I have not experienced in an AP before. (Most give me erectile dysfunction, but do not harm the desire to have sex itself)
I feel sedated every day, even after sleeping 10 or more hours a night.
I need 2 coffees in the day to function like my normal self.
I am seeing my nurse on Friday, he will probably reduce it before switching to something else so fast.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
I have been breaking my 300mg Seroquel tablets in half and only taking half. It has been 5 days I have been doing this now. At 300 I cannot function properly. Total lack of energy, lack of drive.
I cannot understand how some of you on here are taking 600 or more…
At 150mg I feel my sex drive coming back to me, with somewhat morning erections (Not full strength, but there nonetheless) I am aware that I cannot continue to take Seroquel at 150mg… .
Which is why I am seeing my Doctor again this Friday, where I will discuss with her another medication change. She wants me to try Saphris.
Hope saphris work for you.
