Hey there peeps. Just started a new med for add/adhd stuff. The doc says it doesnt induce psychosis in people whith sz/sza. Anyone else tried it?
I’ve trialled a few of the adhd meds ritalin, ritalin la, clonidine, guanfacine. Off label bupropion & also reboxetine which is a NRI indicated for depression. But I haven’t tried any of the amphetamines.
I used to be interested in trialling amoxoetine before I watched this. Why Do the Side Effects of Strattera Continue Even After Quitting? - YouTube
I think it’s a bit overly dramatic but I read the paper and it did concern me. People talk quite commonly about post ssri effects and same with finasteride. I’m sure there are plenty of other examples. For sure these have to be epigenetic changes cause by medication.
With atomoxetine lethargy is a common side effect. I figured that as bupropion was an ndri and ritalin also that adding atomoxetine into the mix wasn’t going to do much for me. Especially since bupropion is energising no reason to replace it with something that is going to stack lethargy with the sedative effects of antipsychotics. That’s just my opinion though.
You’ll get a lot better feel for peoples experiences if you search it up on YouTube. Here is one for example 💊 My Strattera (Atomoxetine) Experience 🤔 - YouTube
Not a hugely positive reception from the people of YT if that actually is anything to go by but I’m sure you’ll also find plenty of people who love it. If you’re not taking anything currently for adhd the difference will be night and day.
@AmICrazyYet thanks for the info. Yeah ive literally never been treated for it. My old paychiatrist only focused on the sza stuff. Im keen to see how it pans out though. I might give it a few weeks and see how i go since i only took my first dose today.
I imagine atomoxetine will take a few weeks to work. I remember when I got my adhd diagnosis it can be a super exciting time. If you already take an antipsychotic then the side effects really aren’t that bad in comparison. I always wondered if atomoxetine might work for negatives since reboxetine has been shown to have some of these effects in a small number of studies.
If you have the time and patience to read 20 or 30 of these then you will get a pretty decent understanding of what to expect. https://www.drugs.com/comments/atomoxetine/for-attention-deficit-disorder.html
Personally I have found them really usefully, especially in the early days when you first start a new class of medications. They will also give you a good idea of some of the side effects to pay attention to. After having taken a medication for a period of time and reflecting on other user reports it becomes quite easy to notice that you will basically experience a portion of the common side effects. This happens on the spectrum and some of them can be a nonissue. After being on a drug for 6 months or longer I find reflecting back on people’s user reports can really provide you a lot of perspective. You do realise a lot of things that you might not have otherwise thought about. Or otherwise attributed to other things in your life.
All that in mind if my only option for adhd medication was atomoxetine I would tell them to give it to me in a heartbeat. Something is better than nothing and although I don’t take ritalin much anymore, adhd medications have made the world of difference.
Good luck in your journey
