I tried to go off antipsychotics once (with medical advice) and in that time I went onto antidepressants. I went straight back into psychosis because of that antidepressant. I am worried if I take an ADHD medication it will happen again. I know straterra is a non stimulant but psychosis is a potential risk and why would I risk that? But I need a job and need the ability to concentrate long enough for that job. I don’t know what to do.
You gotta kinda look at the benefit vs risk. If the benefit outweighs the risk then its worth a try.
i take atomoxetine 10mg/day in the morning and even at this low dose i feel its effect by improving working memory and attention.it didnt worsen my psychosis.
It depends
Are your ADHD symptoms that severe?
Many people can manage without meds
To me it’s severe because I find it tough to focus on conversations and even hold down jobs.
I think it depends on life situation. If you have to work a demanding job full time then it might be the difference between holding down the job or not versus not having to work at all then you can probably get by without it.
Im on atomoxetine 80mg a day. Which i think is the drug name of the brand straterra. And i have been free of psychosis for a few years. It doesnt affect my sza. I actually think it helps my sza a fair bit actually. When it comes to my negative symptoms. But as you know, atomoxetine is a non-stimulant, so the risk for paychosis is barely a thing at all. Its not as activating as you might think. Absolutely nothing like the stimulant ones.
