Something that's been bothering me

Is it possible for you to not smell anything but there is an odor. During my apartment inspection my landlord said it smells like dirty laundry in here. I smell absolutely nothing. I’m going to wash everything today just in case.

Yes nose blind but you should get a clear sense of how it smells when you go out for a couple of hours and come back.

You might just be used to the smell at this point— it happens to a lot of people.

There’s some rule out there that says “if you can smell yourself, then other people can definitely smell you as well.”

She might have been being an assh0le and calling you out on your dirty laundry because she witnessed it, or she could have actually smelled it— tough to know.

But it’s a good idea that you’re gonna wash your stuff, and scented detergent does help a lot.

Have you tried any air fresheners or candles? Maybe some plug-ins in the wall? Those are all nice-smelling suggestions that you could use whenever you have inspections.

I go to Day Treatment several times a week and am gone like for four hours. I don’t smell anything when I come in.

Yes I have some scented laundry detergent that I can use. I got a large bottle of it from the food bank when they were just about out of food. I’m thinking about trying some air freshener as well. I don’t think we’re allowed to have candles though.

My friend’s house smells really bad because she and her mom never clean, but they’re so used to it, they don’t smell it at all.

Something you can do is open windows to let fresh air in, plus clean and do laundry. Good luck!

That’s a great score on the detergent @anon54988740, stuff’s not cheap these days.

Nice! Depending on your budget and how much you wanna spend on smell-good stuff, there’s defos some options available.

Good luck, and hope you find a nice air freshener that you like :dizzy:.

Well I went there for food, but they were running low and giving people personal hygiene and cleaning supplies instead of much food.

Sorry they were low on food when you went. Hopefully you’re doing alright with eats and stuff right now.

The detergent should hopefully last you a long time, and help with this next inspection as well.

I had to deal with Social Security and the bank yesterday before the 15th of the month, but I can do laundry and mop again this afternoon. Would it be alright to use some of the scented laundry detergent on the floor instead of dishwashing liquid?

I went and bought some cheap food at the store. I got a lot of rice, lentils, and other reasonably priced stuff.

I dunno why, but my mind went to @anon4362788. She (and other peeps) seem to have good life hacks— perhaps she or someone else knows…?

Google found an article on it. Yes you can use laundry detergent on the floor.

You can dilute laundry detergent and mop with it
To get funky smells out, I often make a simmer pot. Just fill a pot with water, add a teaspoon or so of cinnamon or nutmeg or cloves, turn the heat on low and summer. Gives the whole house a lovely scent.

Thanks. That’s a good idea. I never thought of that.

You’re welcome. Simmer pots work a lot better than air freshner. Just be sure to add more water as it simmers away.you can combine spices, too.

I like burning incense sticks.

Thanks, but I believe it says in the rules no burning candles, so I don’t think burning incense would be allowed either.

You could get a wax warmer. Those don’t require a flame.

We gradually become used to our own body odors. It’s the reason we don’t notice when having a bad breath.
