My apartment inspection didn't go well

First she said she found a dead roach. I went and looked later, and there was one on the stove. Then she said I going to have to mop even though I already mopped the floor with soapy bleach water. Then she said it smells like dirty laundry. I do have some dirty laundry in the closet, but I don’t smell anything. Is it possible that there is an oder I can’t smell?

Anyway it didn’t go very well. I’m going to do laundry tomorrow and put everything in the large, sealed plastic containers I still have from when I move in. Maybe I should use my scented laundry detergent to mop the floor again with?

I going to spray the fabric reclining chair and bed with Lysol air spray. I think my days in this apartment are numbered. It looks like I have gotten on her bad side somehow.

There might be legal protections against that kind of thing. Personally, I’m terrible about keeping up my apartment.

If there’s an issue with pests such as cockroaches, isn’t that something the apartment building owner needs to address, not the tenant? Pests are rarely isolated to just one apartment.

Yeah if you keep your organic trash like food and dishes cleaned up the roaches might be from another apartment. When I clean I clean up food and dishes first, everything else can wait.

I keep the dishes washed and the kitchen clean.

I would think so Moonbeam.

It sounds like you’re doing everything right. I wouldnt worry about the inspection. If you start seeing more cockroaches, contact the building manager and ask them to address it.

Many years ago, i rented a room in a house when I was at college. The house was super clean but at night cockroaches would crawl out from under the kitchen sink.

My housemates had a cat and when I was studying in my bedroom late at night the cat would bring his cat toys and stuff them under my closed bedroom door. I could see his fuzzy paws under the door. It was really funny.

Then he started chasing the cockroaches from the kitchen down the hall and trying to stuff them under my closed bedroom door. I guess he thought they were his toys and he wanted to share them with me. I was not happy about it.

My housemates owned the house and they had to have it treated for cockroaches to finally get rid of them.

I moved into my current apartment in November of 2020 and the landlords have never entered my apartment since. I keep it in pretty good shape but I find it very strange.

Yeah, I get housing inspections every 2 years, my last one was in July. They check for cleanliness and that outlets/plumbing are all okay. I clean like a demon before inspection, I’m always afraid they’re gonna ■■■■■ about there being too much dog hair in strange places (when I saw my primary doctor for the first time he found a dog hair in my ear!). I don’t know why I’m afraid of these inspections cuz I’ve always done okay…

Oh wow, that’s terrible. Now you have all this more work you have to do. I’m trying to remember, I think it’s been 4 or so months since we had an inspection. That’s a long time for us. I have so much to do around here. I’m constantly trying, but man, it’s hard.

If it’s a German cockroach, they are never alone. If you have one, you have a lot. Growing up, we always had Texas roaches. They’re big suckers that don’t hesitate to fly around. I haven’t seen one in about 15 years. We get house centipedes here, which are equally awful but don’t fly. My granny always told me to keep my mouth closed while I slept so the roaches wouldn’t crawl in. Talk about traumatizing a kid!

We had inspections growing up, too. My landlord only comes by when something breaks now. I really like it, but my place is pretty messy right now.
