Socrates said learning is remembering

Someone at The meeting last night said this. Found this very interesting.I know what Socrates meant by this but the guy at the meeting said by remembering your past you learn about yourself. I found this very interesting. I have a great deal of knowledge for my age but I haven’t always. i used to shun my past and therefore I never learned anything. Reading a book I guess everyone’s capable of learning if they could remember what they learned in that book. But I like to talk about learning about yourself by remembering your past. Although you don’t ruminate because that’s bad!

I had to read Apology of Socrates (L’apologie de Socrate) at the college and I liked it a lot!!! :slightly_smiling_face:.

Yeah man. I had a friend who I mentioned trying to recall what I was like when I was 17 to 19… before I really entered into the environment of adult life and started having symptoms…

She said the professionals say you should be trying to remember what you were like at 10 or 12.

Recalling the self throughout the ages can instill a greater sense of knowing who you are… beyond the nose and the ■■■■■■■■. Crucial for maintaining a sense of identity in the world especially in having schizophrenia.

Yeah. I just remembered watching a farmer butcher a chicken when I was four. What I did not know or accept was that I thought it was funny.

he said that because he thought that we are born with all knowledge. and learning is memory cos all we have to do is recall the eternal ideas of finite things. actually Plato said that. we can’t be sure about Socrates cos he didn’t write any work.
