I used to love all music. From funk, R and B, hard and soft rock, pop, rap, metal, opera. I loved just about everything but country and jazz.
Then, when the mid millennium rolled around, and I was in my mid 40’s, I stopped listening to music and started playing the piano. Mostly classical. That made me appreciate classical like never before.
I used to listen to a lot of psychedelic music and it was a big trigger for me and I would get all sorts of weird interoceptive / self disorder / dissociative experiences and it would put me in a paranoid mood. Since recovering and being on meds I either get bored or I do get triggered but I no longer enjoy it I know it is bad for me so I listen to punk rock.
Ive loved electro house since before sz symptoms showed but recently i really like elton john (especially with tim rice lyrics) to the point of happy crying when i hear it. Songs about insanity/depression creep me out now but i used to like and relate to them before (16-19yrs)
i remember reading a article years ago on how people who listen to certain genres acquire certain mental illnesses or more accurate perhaps, they have an increased risk for developing those tendencies. i remember people who listen to rap are more likely to be schizo and classical is depressed. i forget the other genres. but you can probably search engine it.
