Slurring my words

I upped my dose of risperidone from 4 mg to 4.5mg and I noticed that I’m slurring my words big time!
Don’t need this right now.
Maybe I’ll stay at this dose and not go up to 5mg.
This sucks!

Maybe it’s temporary?

Yeah respiridone made me slur my words too. Sucks because people think you are drunk sometimes

If you are going to make the decision without a doctor’s approval, I would seriously way the pros and cons. it can be dangerous especially if there are significant reasons why your dose was increased

Yeah I’m hoping that it’s temporary @everhopeful.

Lithium made me like that. I’m glad my pdoc took me off it. I hope you can figure out what’s best

That sucks big time. I slurred my words on Lyrica. It also messes up my balance. It’s embarrassing because it really looked as though I’m drunk. I’m being switched to a different med now, and hopefully, it won’t be as bad.

No she basically left it up to me.
She said to play it by ear and see how I do on 4.5 or 5mg.

She even told me that I could take the risperidone on an as needed basis and that the increase could be temporary.

Oh well that’s good you have that much control over your meds. I was on Risperdal for 3 years, and I didn’t slur my words, just became heavily sedated. I took up to 12mg. Clonazapam on the other hand, made me slur my words, and talk like I had a whiny voice, so I feel your pain.

No I have to take the 4mg as maintenance but she allowed me to take the extra 1/2 or 1 mg as needed.

Oh… I understand now. Do you take some during the day?

I take 2mg in the morning.
2mg at bedtime.
I’ve been taking the extra dose in the afternoon.

I just recently got my clozapine switched to all at night, I’m feeling way more energetic. I know your complaint isn’t lack of energy, but you might slurr less if you take it all at night, that’s only my opinion and not a fact. It might not hurt to try it out

I don’t do well taking larger doses all at once.
But thanks for the suggestion @Winterblues.

Do you take your risperdal at night? If so, Does the slurring of words happen regardless of if you take it at night or in the morning? I know every night when i take my clozaril i slur my words big time

I take risperidone in the AM, PM and bedtime.

I didnt know they spaced out risperdal like that. When i was on it i took it all at night. Maybe talk to your
Pdoc about switching to all at night then it might not affect your speech during the day. When i was on saphris they tried to space it out (morning and night) and i was a complete zombie…

I’m on 6mg of risperidone I have not noticed any slurring of my words but I have reduced my disorganized thought and speech. My TD is worse though

I’m no longer slurring my words, so maybe I have to get used to it.
