I’m currently sleeping 10-12 hours a night, ever since I started taking zyprexa. If I need that much every night, and I try to train myself to sleep for 7-8 hours, will I eventually be sleep deprived?
Can I train myself to require less sleep? I’m not talking about 3-4 hours a night, I just don’t want to sleep way too much anymore. I’m sleeping my life away.
Also is this possibly due to depression? I know zyprexa reduces dopamine and dopamine regulates sleep.
I’m going to try some natural treatments for depression to see if it reduces my need for sleep in any way.
I started first on risperidone which is supposed to not make you sleepy. Pow! I was sleeping 16 hours a day the furst day! Antipsychotics do this to people typically.
Most of the time the psych medicines and also the illness will cause you to sleep more. When first got diagnosed and put on stellazine, I slept entire weekends.
Also, be careful about not getting enough sleep, as sometimes lack of sleep can bring up symptoms of the illness.
Maybe your sleep patterns will even out as you get used to the zyprexa. I used to sleep a lot when I was taking it too. But there were a lot of other reasons my sleeping was effected. Wish you the best.
I sleep a lot, but it feels like I’m not rested unless I sleep for about 9 hours, and I dream A TON.
Some brain expert would probably tell me my brainwaves don’t reach the optimal wavelength for getting rested when I sleep, or something.
I slept a lot more when I was on Abilify, with Invega I can at least stay awake (mostly) during the day. I don’t even take that many naps anymore.
