Sleeping over half the day away!

So Im on olanzapine and regardless of what time I take it I don’t get to sleep until like 2-3am. But once I do I’m zonked completely out until like 2 pm. Holding a full time job is pretty much impossible and at home I get labeled as just lazy cause I sleep so much. Of course I don’t generally sleep otherwise. Not like the rest of my family which just fall asleep in the car or in front of the tv. Anybody relate?

When I was first on Seroquel it knocked me out and I slept like that. My pdoc changed me to Seroquel XR, the extended release version, and it was less sedating. Maybe you could talk to your pdoc about it and try a different med. They all have different side effects and maybe something else wouldn’t be as sedating to you.

These are typical sleeping problems that can happen with someones on aps and has schiz.sorry you are going through this. I have similar problems. If I sleep too much like 11 hours one night I usually end up paying for it the next. I end up having trouble falling asleep till late the next night . Then I end up getting 5to 6 hours of sleep the next night. I know it’s hard but you might want to try setting your alarm and getting up when you have gotten about 8 hours of sleep. I think preventing yourself from oversleeping can prevent problems getting to sleep.

I’ve been sleeping for 12 hours for months now. It sucks. But I am trying to reduce it to 9 hours. 9 hours seems like not too much and not too little sleep. I’m on invega but somehow I don’t think the meds make me sleep long. It’s just pure laziness with me.

I’m lazy now. I didn’t use to be.

I am on 20 mg of Zyprexa (olanzapine). For about 15 months I have had difficulty awakening after about 9-11 hours of sleep. Lately I lie in bed on the weekends after a full night of sleep totally wasting half the day. It’s a big problem for me. My psychiatrist feels it is not the meds and it is not depression so he is just waiting for this to improve. Getting up on the weekends is so bad it leaves me feeling depressed the rest of the day and sometimes a day or two after.
This is exactly my problem.

Yes, I slept all last night and most of the day today too. I was put on another 100 mg of Seroquel for a total of 300 mg of Seroquel at night now. It is really zonking me out every night with tiredness in the daytime too. I’ll tell my pdoc about it tomorrow.

That’s pretty much the hours I’m keeping at the moment. But it’s due to late coffees. Without coffee It’s not much better and I sleep midnight till midday. I’m on abilify 15mg.

Set an alarm put it at the otherside of your bedroom so you have to get up to turn it off. Getting out of bed is hard for everyone you will also get use to your medication after awhile.

Seroquel had that effect on me to a large degree, even after two years. Zyprexa (olanzapine) didn’t but I didn’t take it that long. Risperdal has the opposite effect on me. I sleep from about 3:30am to 5:30am then wake up ready to take on the world. I’ll take a two hour nap sometime during the afternoon or evening then be awake till 3:30am again. I’m sorry you’re sleeping all day like that. Talk to your p doc.

I did this on Clozapine, my friends started calling them donkey pills. I ended up cutting down so much on the dose because it was making me sedated that the medication ended up not doing much for me.
