Sleep aid suggestions?

I need something that will help me fall asleep and stay asleep. PTSD makes it very hard to do both. Does anyone have any suggestions? I want to get off benzos. Prazosin didn’t work. Trazodone isn’t working so well but we can try to raise my dosage on it.

I take melatonin sometimes. Helps getting me tired and sleep better.

What dose do you use? There’s lots of different ones at the pharmacy.

I dont mean to be negative but I read that melatonin can alter your sleep patterns permanently .

I would think that maybe “clean” eating and excercise might do the trick.

instead of driving to work ,walk or ride a bike.

Both release GABA into the brain better than GABA by itself, it can’t cross the blood brain barrier with out some help from niacin or another molecule.

Exercise before bed definitely helped but lately to be honest I’ve barely had time or motivation to do schoolwork much less exercise. The healthy diet helps give me energy during the day but doesn’t so much help me sleep.

well dont excercise BEFORE bed for crying out loud.

Maybe you should manage your time better,excercise maybe 6 hrs before you go to sleep that way your adrenaline from the excercise is gone.

Hahaha I didn’t mean like right before bed I meant several hours before.

Exercise actually makes me feel very relaxed after, like I took a hot bath. It lets out all my adrenaline.

I told you before, Zolpidem, puts me to sleep 8 hours straight.

Valerian root can help, but it shouldn’t be mixed with certain meds, and shouldn’t be used too often.

Kava root tea is what I use, but same thing, don’t mix it with certain meds or alcohol. And don’t drink more than 5 cups a week.

Melatonin is probably the safest one. Most of my students took 3-6 mg before bed. It gives me a headache, but most people love it. As far as I know does not change your natural body chemistry.

I didn’t know that, but mine were prescribed by my doctor, so you should definitely ask your own doctor about it.

Lately, I’ve been using chamomile Sleepytime tea.

I’m sorry you have PTSD.

The only thing that works for me when I can’t sleep is temazepam.

Kava root tea

I think it’s banned in Europe as it can cause liver damage.

I’m in the US. Alcohol causes liver damage but that’s not banned there is it? Fwohoho

Several studies have found that kava may be useful in the treatment of anxiety, insomnia, and related nervous disorders. However, there is serious concern that kava may cause liver damage. More than 30 cases of liver damage have been reported in Europe.

Not worth the risk in my opinion.
