Is the “skynet” scenario remotely credible? I remain an optimist on the subject.
Fear the ones that get ahold of AI.
This should be in Unusual Beliefs I think.
We can’t conjure up consciousness. I can only see computers becoming better and faster at information processing.
Well, the topic is mainstream enough these days.
WHy can’t we “conjure up” consciousness, especially seeing that nature already did a good job at it?
My plan is to start a remote monastery on a homestead off the grid potentially with guns to protect ourselves from the inevitable societal collapse. Technology is accelerating so exponentially that our society today is unrecognizable from 10 years ago, and in 10, 20, 50 years it will not be sustainable.
I don’t see how guns could protect us from “societal collapse”, or why should the latter follow from technological developments. If anything, only technology can save us from ourselves.
Given how common stupidity is, I’ll take whatever intelligence I can find.
No we shouldn’t fear it.
