Should I try Rexulti?

Its the only other (Abilify) partial dopamine agonist available in Canada. Vraylar would be better as no side effects of addictions and hypersexuality but its not in Canada. Partial dopamine agonists significantly improved my severe negative symptoms.

Idk if I should try Rexulti as its similar to Abilify and maybe have the same side effects. My pdr prescribed Rexulti to me but I was too scared to take it so didn’t pick it up at the pharmacy.

So many side effects with psychiatric/brain meds and sometimes they don’t work for positive symptoms.

5 Warnings and Precautions

5.7 Pathological Gambling and Other Compulsive Behaviors

Newly added subsection:

Post-marketing case reports suggest that patients can experience intense urges, particularly for gambling, and the inability to control these urges while taking REXULTI. Other compulsive urges, reported less frequently, include: sexual urges, shopping, eating or binge eating, and other impulsive or compulsive behaviors. Because patients may not recognize these behaviors as abnormal, it is important for prescribers to ask patients or their caregivers specifically about the development of new or intense gambling urges, compulsive sexual urges, compulsive shopping, binge or compulsive eating, or other urges while being treated with REXULTI. In some cases, although not all, urges were reported to have stopped when the dose was reduced or the medication was discontinued. Compulsive behaviors may result in harm to the patient and others if not recognized. Consider dose reduction or stopping the medication if a patient develops such urges.

It was very hard to recognize these side effects, it took much help from my parents and brothers to make me realize that I didn’t have addiction problems before starting Abilify.

My personal opinion is no. You had too many problems with Abilify. I would wait for Vraylar.

Yea thats what I was thinking too. Too much risk as Abilify made my personality worse and it was very hard to bring it back to normal like it is now.

I think from my experience with meds and my body chemistry I have the least negative symptoms on partial dopamine agonists like Abilify, Rexulti, Vraylar and Caplyta (Not sure if its one). I think I was out of my mind earlier thinking of trying Rexulti, Abilify almost destroyed my life permanently.

Maybe try a small dose? Make it less risky that way

I think its still risky as my pdr told me that the side effects sometimes can be unrelated to dosage.

It would be interesting to know from people that tried both how much similar they are and if the side effects are different.

We have different body chemistry so different side effects. I think we need to test Rexulti on the same patients who got addictions and hypersexuality side effects from Abilify.

Maybe your pdoc would try polypharmacy . low dose of risperidone and then add rexulti or something

When you first tried risperidone how long did it take before it made you bed ridden?

I don’t remember but I was on a lower dose, 3mg. I was a bit better than now regarding negative symptoms but had occasional paranoia like fearing ppl outside, feeling that they’re talking about me and laughing at me, and following me.
