Im on risperidone now no positives slight negatives but its causing ED, abilify apparently doesn’t do this

Changing to abilify from risperidone really helped me - I was suicidal on risperidone. But everyone is different, and no AP is perfect in terms of negatives.

What is ED?

erectile dysfunction

Well in that scenario, then I can say that Abilify is much better (in my case at least). My sex life is now completely normal, whereas with risperidone I think I had sex once in 6 months.

Don’t forget, though, that it will take around 3 months to get rid of the risperidone from your system. Doctors say it is less, but that’s not my experience.

Noticed that too when the risperidone was lowered it took long to notice it was lowered. Problem is risperidone is working so well

Risperidone is very powerful. It was too powerful for me - it felt like every single dopamine receptor was pinned down.

It’s up to you. What does your pdoc think?

Hes put it down as an option that or going back to fluonxol which didnt work for me. He did mention he had some patients relapse on it when they switched which is why I havent switched yet. Think he mentioned they were bipolar though

The thing is, you don’t know what they’re circumstances are. Maybe they weren’t taking their drugs.

I think you’re more likely to have breakthrough symptoms before you relapse.

The other thing I would say about abilify is that I have had quite high anxiety at points. However that is better now that I have lowered it.

I wont be on too high a dose the equivalent of 3mg risperidone so a meduim dose. Would like to get my doses lowered more but dont think the pdoc would recommend that because i relapsed on 20mg Fluonxol and any lower on risperidone or abilify is the equivalent of that although I smoked alot on FLuonxol and Fluonxols effectiveness is lowered by smoking

Did you not get breakthrough symptoms before you relapsed?

I had brekthrough symptoms yes but only realized it after the relapse. For years I was not on medication and the breakthrough symptoms were considered normal. Was ten years without medication

If ur doing well on risoeridone do t switch it’s hard enough to find an ap that works you will have some other issue on other meds so it’s the same thing

Abilify left me semi delusional and cost me my marriage…I am now on fluphenazine…generic prolixin…no side effects and completely stable.

fluphenazine is that same as fluonxol?

no…totally different…I love it.

I can’t vote yes or no on this one, because the med’s affect people differently. I got a good increase in my physical strength when I got on Abilify. I did a couple of non weightlifting workouts over the space of a month, and my bench press went from 135 four reps to 155 fourteen reps. Abilify got me a little too antsy, though.

I’m afraid I won’t eat or sleep if I switch to abilify from risperidone. I got that bad from a dose cut. Is that your experience switching?
