I’ll have to wait till Monday to book my doctor, and she might not have an open time slot till two weeks later. I am getting attacks of sadness and anxiety at night and want to try buspar, which my doctor suggested, to see if it will make me more functional. It’s far from life threatening, but I’d like to try something ASAP. I believe I have a little bit of depression too but I don’t want to take ssris for it because I have enough side effects from antipsychotics. I could really wait it out and don’t want to bother the hospital for no reason but I’m hoping that if I go, I will get a prescription right away.
I wish you had an emergency mental health services department in your area. Mine allows for emergency prescriptions from an on-call psychiatrist, you can drive up at any time of day or night. You just have to go to the central office.
Wouldn’t they put you in a psych ward to be assessed before they prescribe you anything.
If anything they’ll just give you a benzo and send you home.
Try to sleep on it or wait it out but its ultimately your choice.
Right, I don’t know what they will do. Multiple times I have gone to emergency and just been prescribed more meds and discharged. I have hydroxyzine but for some reason it’s turned into a sugar pill no matter how many I take…
Good news! My pdoc answered her phone and prescribed me something new!
Ssri’s aren’t too bad for depression. That depression will really bite so if it is that you may need to rethink things somewhat.
No shame in going there.
I was there last weekend to get Haldol as I was having a rough time.
Try to go when it’s not likely to be busy, I found it hard to stay with all the people there.
My sadness is triggered by eating a substantial amount (like going to a buffet) or taking meds. It also is a withdrawal symptom of Invega. It’s possible it’s not depression…
Buspar works, if taken regularly and consistently. Vistaril also works, but makes you sleepy. I’ve been on these for a while. Let me know if I can provide additional information. Good luck, hon. Sending you hugs
Wooooo! 66)$7?((
That’s great @anon62973308!!! Did she prescribe you buspar?
