Should I give up on trying to be successful at something? SzA

writing yes

never paid jobs

all personal

book after book

fiction, flash fiction, poetry, children’s lit, plays and sketches

I’m trying to think of one. There were some excellent writers who drank themselves to death, and others who did a lot of drugs. The great poet Sylvia Plath was severely mentally ill, but I think she was depressed, not schizophrenic. There were a lot of world leaders who also wrote books who were badly depressed. Winston Churchill called his depression his “black dog”. I think Abraham Lincoln was subject to fits of depression. Mark Vonnegut, Kurt Vonnegut’s son, wrote a very good book about his fight with schizophrenia. There was probably a good number of towering figures who fought with mental illness, but they needed to keep it secret from the public.

I can’t help but think Sylvia could have done her death in writing

she did some

but when she did is premeditated.

Why?

I’ve done several dark works

it clears the soul.

Almost finished!?!? That’s INCREDIBLE!!!

If you’ve made it this far you can totally own the rest. Maybe just slow down a bit, but please don’t stop.

YOU’VE GOT THIS!!!

I dropped out 7 years ago. Finally got over it and moved on. I really tried my best. I hope you stick with it.

You could consider requesting special accommodations (e.g., for taking exams) through the disability office at your school.

You can at least be yourself. I often would like to be like a bear and hibernate through a winter and wake up feeling oh so relaxed.

I finished 5 years of nursing college delusional, hallucinating and disassociating all the while. I really don’t know how I did it but I made it. My last pdoc told me that I, “accomplished the impossible”. I’m sure I did it out of love for my baby son.

Success is such a broad word. Some people take that as owning multiple properties with a swelling bank account while others may define success as being spiritually motivated. Try not to let your own self imposed standards prevent you from living life on your terms.

:grinning:

doing work and earning money doesnt always mean youll be successful

even a college degree doesn’t guarantee that you will enjoy life

generalized statistics are often used to push certain lifestyle choices on people, regardless of whether they are really beneficial to an individuals situation and life experience at any given moment as it evolves

-----////---------

if hobbies and friends and jobs are what make you feel are desirable and high achievements, then chase after those things

maybe youll get what you want, but you shouldnt assume you will, or that when you do it will feel like the end of the feelings of purposelessness which may make you feel out of control in life
