This complete stranger who goes for a walk through my neighborhood sometimes shouts hello to me if he sees me when I’m out vaping. I suspect he has mental illness.

Tonight he called me by my name !
Either this guy has gone to the trouble of finding out my name or he’s really a cop or something.
What would you do ?
Maybe ask him how he knows your name?
I would ask myself if I’m experiencing other positive symptoms and if this could be rolled in with them? Not to denigrate you, but sometimes the most obvious thing is the correct thing.
Maybe he learned your name from other neighbors?
Hmmm. Idk. Try not to worry about it. I make it a point to try to remember people’s names just to be nice.
I’m guessing he learned it from neighbors I would be bothered too though

When I was going to the bus one day there was this bucket of paint standing and I passed by it every day. And one day I came home and the same bucket of paint is standing in front of my home. Spooky. The paint bucket was basically my life.
I’d ask him how he knew. In a non-confrontational tone of course. Gotta be a good neighbor!

I don’t get why you think he’s a cop @everhopeful . Why would a cop be walking around your neighborhood learning everyone’s name? Are you secretly part of the cosa nostra? I don’t understand why you think a cop would be stalking you.
It’s more comforting than thinking I’ve piqued the interest of a lone weirdo to the point he’s asking neighbours about me.

No. Cops are only human and some of them get caught in a trap of knowing too much about criminals.
