Short term memory loss

I am not able to remember few things that my mind grasps. For example, in a minute if someone talks to me immediately I am not able to remember all the things said. Also if I read something for a minute I am not able to remember fully either. I have spoken to my doctor about this he is rationalising it. And says it’s a problem with my approach. Can someone tell me how to overcome that?

I had this problem in the early years of sz. its the side effects of medications. if medications dose reduced your memory would work better. but don’t do it if you think your sz symtomps get worse.

I actually had that problem before I got on the right medicines.

Once my symptoms lessened due to meds, the concentration problems lessened also.

I don’t remember exactly what he says everytime. I have an impression that he says like that. I am finding hard time to come to terms or be at peace with myself.

Why? 151515121515151

I don’t know why. I am clueless what is happening to me. He asked me to get admitted. I may need ECT.

I had short term memory loss from alcohol and drugs before I got schizophrenia. Now age is compounding the problem.

What was I saying?

Oh, yeah! Schizophrenia caused it too.

I have not taken alcohol or drugs. But I look like one.

Holy cow…!!!

He did not come to any conclusions about it. He seems to try to make me normal. I am suicidal a lot.

I used to read a chapter and not remembering anything. It went away over time.

The cause…maybe bad influence from people. So much bad influence that it effected my mind.

I dont think its possible to do something about it yourself.

Short-term memory loss would fall into a “negative symptom” of sz/sza. I take Wellbutrin SR to help me concentrate, and sarcosine (see links on this site) seems to help with maintaining memory. Another drug I used to take is Memory Matters, which is a supplement that helps with short-term memory. It is not you or your “approach.” It is the illness.

I am sorry to hear about the memory problems. Treatment depends on what caused the memory loss. Short term memory loss can be caused by several conditions. Some of them are reversible, e.g., vitamin B12 deficiency, and some are not. Short term memory loss could be the first symptom of Alzheimer’s disease that would cause progressive loss of independence.

Technically called anterograde amnesia, this is impaired “recording” of information. Since it isn’t recorded into memory, it can’t be recalled later. (This is in contrast to retrograde amnesia, where previously stored material can’t be retrieved.) There could also be deficits in attention and concentration, which in turn can impair memory encoding. Overall, one appears scattered and absent-minded.

Anecdotally, donepezil or galantamine may help the symptoms of memory problems.
