Seeing your therapist or psychiatrist

Continuing the discussion from Horrible psychiatrist:

So I haven’t been to see my therapist in like a month or month and a half. Also haven’t seen my prescriber in a month and it’s pretty awesome. (Normally see them every 2 weeks) I have just run out of things to talk about and they honestly don’t seem like the best… I feel I have learned more googling on my own (my prescriber constantly is googling the questions I ask her) and from being on here the last week than from them.
How often do you see your therapist or psychiatrist? Or prescriber?

My therapist is amazing so I see her every week but as for my new psychiatrist I hope I never see him again

I read that lol that is too bad😔

So I just looked it up and there is a difference between a therapist and a psychiatrist… Huh. I should get me one of those

I see my therapist once a week. (She is a nurse practitioner and can prescribe meds so she is like a pdoc and therapist in one, very convenient) Like you I sometimes have time periods where I feel I don’t really have much to talk about. She said that’s fine and I don’t have to be having a crisis every time we meet but I feel like it’s a waste of my money and time if I’m just going there to make small talk, you know? So at the time I made my appointments less frequent…and then I crashed and wasn’t able to see her when I needed her which was a mess.

So basically I have to keep up my weekly thing not just for present me but for future me as well, because I don’t know how stable future me is going to be. Maybe you should think that way too. However if you think your therapist is incompetent than I totally understand and maybe you should find someone new.

I like my therapist. He talks a lot and hijacks my sessions sometimes but he is very compassionate and empathetic. He has a great chairside manner.

I saw someone at least once a month, more often when necessary, from 1995-2012. Then I lost my med insurance, and haven’t been to one since. Feel kinda lost, but money is the name of the game.
