Thinking back on the past 20 years since I left school, I struggled with this sense of lack of status when it came to having a job, but you know what now that I realise what jobs are like and how hard they are, I actually only look back on my job as a security guard with envy.
That was a nice little number, well paid for ■■■■ easy work. I look back now and think I was happy in that job although stigmatised by its lack of status, you know old school friends looking down on you and you sensing that they think youre a major failue (lack of staus). But I loved that job and its such a cushy number now with the internet as company.
I regret not having the wisdom and good grace not to know better. But what a great job security guard was. You should try it.
I’m a security guard. It’s a great job. I get payed for doing nothing. Ok I have to act if something happens. But nothing serious has happened this far. No fires or burglars.
I was a security guard for a Marina in Panama City Beach. one slip there was Hank Williams Jr’s boat called “bocephus”…strange times the nights at the marina were…girls coming up wanting rides in the cart, etc. No action, but girls were always around…har…
@karl being a prison warden is not that bad. The only thing that is not nice is that you get to spend a lot of time in prison isolated from the rest of the world. When you’re working nightshift it is rather safe as everyone is locked up for the night. I worked for one year at a maximum security prison, one year at medium security where I was a records clerk and for two years at an ultra high maximum prison. The gangs are bad in prison but they very seldom attack wardens. It was very interesting to work with their records. A criminal would for example first get arrested for stealing a chicken, then a sheep or cattle, then assault, then armed robbery, then man slaughter and finally murder. Their crimes escalate as they become harder criminals each day. Criminals just can’t stay out of prison. The real scary guys are being locked up for about 22 hours of the day and get taken out for exercise in small groups only. The others are taken outside of the prison to work in the fields on the farm, some work on building projects and some work as mechanics on vehicles etc.
@fellowman…so is prison for a prisoner tough, like real tough and boring. Are they locked up in cells solitary or with a cellmate. Are they locked up for 16 hrs a day? Just curious.
I accidently withdrawn the post instead of editing it.
Prison is tough for most inmates. Some prisons have group holding cells where up to 60 inmates are locked up together. Inmates gets privileges for good behaviour and are graded accordingly. A well graded inmate may receive four contact visits per month from friends or family. A bad graded inmate may receive only one visit behind glass per month. A good inmate can receive 8 letters per month whereas a bad inmate may receive only one censored letter per month. Some inmates are taken to solitary confinement for bad behaviour. There they are stripped from all privileges. …no tv or radio, no mail, no visits, no contact with other inmates and only half an hour exercise per day. In some of the newer prisons inmates are kept two or four in a cell.
