My negative symptoms are really bad. Have no feelings. Don’t brush teeth, change clothes or exercise. The negatives are worse part.
i used to be like that too. whats been helping is forcing myself to do art and also accepting the moment. Not grasping for anything, then it is no longer a long wait till happiness it is merely time passing by and that’s ok. Sometimes out of nowhere the veil is lifted and you see everything as flowing and mysterious as it is. But you have to be in a state of accepting the moment, life grows from there. PS getting out in nature helps
^This.
I didn’t shower/change clothes/brush my teeth for the first three and half years on meds. Then I started exercising and everything changed.
There are chemicals in your brain that will make you feel better if you can access them. I do this through cardio exercise. If you get the endorphins going you will notice improvements.
There’s also different types of endorphins from what I’ve read.
Exercise and masturbation release endorphins, but in different area of the brain/body.
Marijuana and alcohol also release endorphins, but again, in complete different areas of the brain/body.
I find it helps a lot to make a daily/weekly routine, and stick to it no matter what. Force yourself to do it even though you don’t want to.
Mine is
- Get up, have a morning cigarette
(Monday, wednesday and friday I shower after this and change my clothes) - Put on clothes
- brush teeth
- have morning coffee
- go to work
and when I get home from work, I make dinner.
I know too well the overwheling feeling of “I don’t want to”, but the more you let yourself get away with that behaviour, the harder it is to break it.
When you think about it, showering and brushing your teeth isn’t that hard, and doesn’t have to take long.
It’s way easier if you know “okay, it’s 9am, now I need to brush” or “Okay, today is wednesday, time to shower”
And especially if you make yourself do it before you can do whatever you usually do to pass time or have fun.
In denmark, they say “Man må yde før man kan nyde”, which means you have to do your duties before you can do fun things.
I really don’t know.
I picked this up from some meat head at the gym who had noticed I just got a good workout.
■■■■… now I have to do research. I’ll check r/psychiatry and report back.
Don’t know if you’ll find what you’re looking for.
Best endorphins come from exercise and opioid agonists.
IMO.
Do you have negative symptoms only or have positive too? If yes then what are they do it come constantly like negative?
No I’ve had five psychosis where I had positives but I don’t have them all the time.
How long have you been on meds? How old are you?
I’m 35 been on meds 4 years. Had negatives before being on meds.
I’ve heard that negatives are part of the illness, not the meds. Idk…
Physical activity was the key for me, so that’s kind of what I preach on this site…

You have negative symptoms for long time before having positive symptoms? Is the negative symptoms worsening or is it constant?
I think something really important is to stay occupied and challenging yourself during the say. Find a hobby or pick up an old one again. And go easy on yourself… Remember it’ll only get easier as you get used to it
The best way to manage negative is to make strict schedules, habits and follow them without fail. The reason is because there is no interest, feeling to do it like normal people so we must force our self to do needed on time. Habits, schedules help us to keep moving.
I’ve had negatives since my first psychosis nine years ago. They’re not getting worse. Maybe slightly better.
If theyre not improving on the it own you may need to be proactive.
If they bother you that much you should really consult a professional like a social worker who can help you get this straightened around.
Anti psychotic drugs also can bring negative symptoms if its dose is either higher dose or not need (without positive symptoms). Need to ask your doctor regarding this.
Yeah I just went for cycle and had bath afterwards. Feel a lot better.
Now you know the secret to beat negative symptoms. Yes get busy, create good habits and follow them strictly. Get the momentum going. Also if you do something daily its so easy to continue doing like that. Ex: brush your teeth soon after dinner. Not skip it even for one time and then brushing is so easy. Same way poop before having breakfast then that becomes easy. Even if you not poop no problem at least sit on toilet to strengthen that habit. This way create small small habits for the day.
