Hello everybody! I decided to start a new topic concerning the name change of schizophrenia. Researchers around the world are currently looking for the new name of schizophrenia, a strategy that seems to have worked in Japan and other countries. I just wanted to share this with you, because of all the articles I’ve read, none of the authors proposed to ask people diagnosed and living with schizophrenia for any suggestions. What do you think?
How about…
“SkitzoDoodleyBop”
It has a friendly, harmless ring to it.
I call mine “Frank”. Just joking.
On a serious note, though…
“Sensory Perception Disorder”
SPD
usually I just tell people I have minor retardation. Works all the time.
pas mal!
It sounds good.
SPD
Hmmm…
I found this link. It seems SPD is already a recognized affliction.
Sensory Processing Disorder

great idea there definately should be a name change honesty is good
well since the diagnosis is based entirely on the symptoms a person is presenting and no physical testing whatsoever to determine the the actual possible cause or rule anything else out from the many possible causes of those symptoms before the label is slapped on and people are drugged up it should be called schizosymptomi
hey,
I like schizophrenia. It works and has worked. When diagnosed I thought I was developing multiple personalities so even the afflicted can learn.
You name it what you like but it’s education that is the key. You’ve got to get into schools and say 1% of you guys are going to develop this and early intervention leads to better outcomes. We don’t need public relations…we need some good strategies for picking out at risk youth…
Sure would have helped me!
A friend in the struggle,
rogueone the schizophrenic!
“Front Loaded Trouser Syndrome.”
If people are going to make assumptions about me based on a label, they may as well make the right ones.
how about …the funny farm disorder. just kidding. super spectrum disorder. or ssd.
hows about “I’m not crazy, just a little weird disorder?” or better yet “Stop judging me you damn Gabber Nob!”
Note I have no frickin clue what gabber nob means, but some british guy called me that a few months ago at work after I tried to explain to him he cannot simply pay for materials and permits, beucase our company oesnt make profit on those, we only make profit on the actual labor…
So anyone in the UK who can explain this to me would be thanked…the only part I get is that Nob is slang for ■■■■■…but here where I live Gabber means to talk none stop, so that would translate as “Talkative ■■■■■” and I’m not sur that’s what he meant…
I don’t see what’s wrong with schizophrenia.
A name change is long past due.
The term schizophrenia is ancient.
Split Mind describes nothing.
I believe that the stigma would still exist if the name changed, but it would be less.
Dementia Precocks, an oldie-but-goody.
Did I misspell something?
You mean praecox? And I rather like this term… dementia of the youth.
I was making a joke. I should add a wink face.
Holy chit syndrome…
Because when they tell you what you’ve got all you can do is say holy ■■■■.
Or just kill me now syndrome … you know because on the spectrum of mental disorders schizophrenia is definitely up there at the tippy top lol… so when faith and all hope gives out from under you … you’re just like … kill me now please so…
Or how about the -I’m Jesus- syndrome because probably like half of the people with sz have religious delusions or are prone to getting them…
Schizophrenia is good. Schizophrenia is being lifted out slowly by society as non violent. It’s an established word and even if you changed the name of it people would still call it schizophrenia.
