I have schizoaffective disorder which means that I have manic and depressive episodes as well as hallucinations with and without any other symptoms, too. It’s hard to treat. I wouldn’t want to be called a mutt, though. Do I not belong here? I can go.
You belong here @anon78876561.
I have both diagnoses - schizoaffective and bipolar.
This is an inclusive site.
Thank you very much!
My latest pdoc says ASD+ schizophrenia are the best fits. I’m not so sure though. It might be lack of insight , but I don’t see myself as being as ill as many people here.
Mood symptoms - depression and mood swings have been mentioned before in assessments. However Consta and now Paliperidone have mood stabilising properties. Perhaps too much? At my last appointment stepdaughter said I was emotionally very flat.
Having said all that this is a forum for people who have experienced psychosis not just schizophrenia/schizoaffective, though most people here have those diagnoses.
I dont see why people with other types of psychosis wouldnt be welcome. People with bipolar can have just as bad psychotic symptoms, as do people with some other problems. Schizophrenia is just a manmade label too. I for instance am a pretty unclear case, with fluctuating diagnoses, depending on the doctor and how I presented myself. I have sometimes had a paranoid schizophrenia diagnosis and sometimes not in the past years. Next week I will hear their newest diagnosis. I have had pretty clear psychoses though, to the point of being catatonic and mute.
the symptoms overlap a lot
I’m sorry if I offended
I’m just trying to be clear about who I’m talking to on this site
I can’t offer advice on bipolar
I’m paranoid schizophrenic too
It has been very severe and for a number of years,
but i’m out of hospital for 11.5 years and married
bipolar is on the schizophrenia spectrum
a lot more similarities than they used to think there were
@Daze. I used to get wound up by this but it’s not an issue for me anymore.
It’s just the nature of the site. Sz people are really quiet well at inclusion and all and having overlapping symptoms with bi polar isn’t a bad thing. It is what it is and it’s all about treatment anyways.
I think it could be good if everyone took antipsychotics who used this board but that rule takes out most of the paranoid sz people anyways ;).
Seriously. It’s moderated pretty well these days. In the past people here used their positions for no good. That hasn’t happened for years. I’m a supporter of the mods here even though @anon9798425 bans me for a week every time I talk bad about therapy but that is the breaks. ( With meds it’s not such a biggie really! )
Participate. For me these days it’s not such a concern. Most of the evil has passed and we’re a relatively well managed web site. Pour your energy into support. Don’t worry about other issues. It’s not a conspiracy and it’s far from it!
I’ve got my delusions/world fame.
Paranoid schizoaffective disorder with major depression is my current dx unfortunately. Its neighbors/community/coworkers/friends in,my paranoid delusions
Maybe there are more bp (and sza) folks who are fully functional than sz folks.
Btw, I have sz, but i have never heard voices. Just crippling delusions and a few hallucinations (+negatives +cognitives). There are certain events I’m still not sure did they actually happen.
I have schizophrenia, likely catatonic subtype but i didn’t think pdocs were diagnosing anyone with subtypes anymore. I also have major depression. Although i’m happy to say my medications are working well so i’m not struggling like i used to.
I’m just schizophrenic. Not paranoid type though. Yes I do see a lot of bipolar and schizoeffective people around here. Both bipolar people I’ve known in my life haven’t heard voices. And I knew one schizoeffective guy but he never talked about symptoms. And he seemed fine even when smoking pot all the time.
I was diagnosed paranoid schizophrenia back when they had subtypes for schizophrenia. Three or four months ago I started hearing an occasional voice. My pdoc upped my AP dose and it went away. That brought back memories of 2008, the last time I was unmedicated. I can’t recall hearing voices in 2008, but I probably was.
I got rediagnosed with a personality disorders
A place of mutts? Don’t you think that’s alittle offensive
I agree that other mis can be helpful, too. besides some people’s diagnosis change.
I think with some of us these diagnoses are in flux.
1975-83 schizophrenia
1983 -2005 schizoaffective mixed type or bipolar
2005 -? personality disorder nos
?-2018 paranoid personality disorder
Latest appointment Oct 2018 pdoc is suggesting ASD +schizophrenia as the best fit.
Been on APs 26 of last 43 years(1982-1998 just on lithium(debatable whether it has antipsychotic properties),2005-2006 off meds on doctor’s say so )
Awesome Input @firemonkey
