If I get symptoms after using a substance without getting manic or depressed. Does that mean i’m probably sza? Has this happened to you?
If there’s no mania or depression, why would it be sza? I’m not a dr and can’t diagnose you though. I recommend asking your dr
I mean I have had mania and depression but I remember after being medicated I still heard voices but they weren’t as intense and I had a normal mood and I get delusions without mood episodes sometimes, now I’m confused because my doctors said i’m not schizophrenic.
If your dr doesn’t believe you have schizophrenia that’s a lot more accurate than anything I can come up with. It’s ok to get a second opinion though from another dr
Your pdoc is the only one that can answer this. We are not qualified.
By substance do you mean drugs or alcohol?
I meant both since I had a spike of paranoia with alcohol too.
Well only a dr can tell you for sure. Im going through the same, therapist isnt sure if my psychosis is drug related or an underlying sza. Best to focus on the drug use first, because if its that quitting solves that, if its sza itll return. History ca n help.
@anon19606225, drugs can worsen the picture drastically.
It’s much better if you don’t use drugs or alcohol.
Yeah, now i’m starting to think the psychosis is probably just drug related but i’m quitting all drugs for good.
They do, I thought I could handle alcohol as it didn’t make me paranoid at first, but now I know that’s not the case.
No positive changes occur when we use drugs and alcohol.
