Saying No!

Nawtard phoned me up today. He was in the city and missed his bus, and would I come get him.

So I picked him up, and he asked if he could borrow a dollar so that he could get a nip for the way home.

I said I didn’t want to do that. Then, we rode in silence for the next five minutes.

Of course, I don’t want to buy him a nip! My God, though, it has been beaten into me to share what I have.

I was going to ask that.

Had to look it up. Apparently it’s 1/3 pint of beer.

Well sure, it’s nice to share but not if it’s going to make you feel bad or someone is going to take advantage of you. There’s nothing wrong with occasionally treating someone. What irks me personally is when the person expects it or makes you feel like you HAVE to treat him.

It’s OK to lend money to someone who appreciates it. Remember that old Mel Brooks movie? Quote: " It’s nice to be nice to the nice".

I haven’t had a problem with someone borrowing money from me for a long time. But 8 years ago I had a couple housemates who borrowed $20.00 or $30.00 from me on a weekly basis for more than a year. I’m not exaggerating. And sometimes they took a week or so to pay me back when they originally told me they would pay me back in a couple days. I invented my own saying, Quote: " The problem with lending money is that when they give an excuse not to pay you back when they say they will, they are making THEIR problems into YOUR problems".

It’s not my fault they spend my money on drugs alcohol or their paycheck doesn’t come in. I just want my money back, if you can’t pay me back, it will cause ME a problem which I don’t need.

That was a funny situation I was in at that house. I was employed the whole time I was there but about three or four guys weren’t employed at all. So there I was, the person with a disability, who was lending his hard-earned money to three able-bodied people who were perfectly able to get jobs but either chose not to and sat around collecting unemployment or sat around doing drugs and they had no disabilities.

Sorry to hijack your thread Jayster. Way to stay strong and not hand out your money for the kid to get booze. I bet that 5 minutes of awkward silence was better than spending 5 days wondering if he’s going to pay you back . And it made a strong statement to him about how you feel about lending money.

It’s been my experience that when people borrow money most of them might as well say GIVE me the money because it is never going to get paid back. That soured me on loaning money.

no worries @jayster lol

next time its on me  haha

We were driving right by the liquor store. The liquor store will sell tiny bottles of booze for as little as 90 cents. Nawtard likes a nip of root beer vodka, for example.
