Loaning money

A guy at the assisted living center where I live just asked me if he could borrow five dollars. I told him I was broke, even though I had the money. It kind of bugs me to do that, but if I loan him money once he is going to keep coming back for more. Also, other people here will start to ask me to loan them money. The way it works around here, they might as well say, “Give me the money”, because they aren’t going to pay you back. If they do pay you back it is because they want to ask for a bigger loan in the future which they won’t pay back. I hate to be so tight, but if people around here think I have money to spare they won’t leave me alone. It’s also that way with things like instant coffee. I hate to be so tight with it, but if other people hear that you have instant coffee they will hound you for it. I wouldn’t mind giving it out to one person a couple of times, but doing that would get me mobbed by the others.

I think you’re doing the right thing.

You have every right not to loose your money. I think you did the right thing.

You have to be the bad “guy” in thoughs places or it will be you hitting other people up for money. I always kept boxes of spaghetti (could do top Ramon or whatever). Gave them that instead. Funny they stopped asking.

I sometimes do the same!

I once lent someone I lived with £40 I’m glad they paid it back, They were then in the spiral of debt!

Smart move, I would of done the same thing

It’s your money and you can do what you want with it. You’re not obligated to give it to anyone.
