Saw my Pdoc/TD

Well I just saw my psychiatrist and she is almost positive that my mouth movements and hand shaking are the beginning symptoms of Tardive Dyskinesia.
I told her that I can’t think clearly on 4mg of Risperdal
The bottom line is she wants me off Risperdal, sooner than later.

She will make a longer appointment with me after my vacation to discuss other medications options for me.

Well this is it.

After decades of being on Risperdal it’s finally biting me in the ass and turning on me.

I’m a bit nervous but looking forward to being on a safer med.

Wow, TD finally caught up to me

I feel deflated

I am glad you noticed it now rather than later. That’s a plus. It CAN go away, even if it takes time.

Thanks @Happy_H
Since lowering my Risperdal to 3mg the lip twitching disappeared but she wants me to go back up to 4mg temporarily when I’m on vacation

But now I’m noticing tounge movements in my mouth a bit

Did she explain about the medication masking the symptoms? When you get off the meds, the symptoms may seem worse for a little while. That passes. Maybe the tongue movement is from the slight decrease?

I didn’t notice the tongue movement when I saw her virtually
Just noticing it now a bit.

Don’t worry @anon25873142
Abilify has a low risk for TD

But I’ve been on it 14 years so the risk increases. Still gonna talk to the doc about it.

Get off of that Risperdal @Vertigo

I tried it very briefly and it gave me jumpy legs at night while I was trying to sleep. I ditched it right away.

TD can be reversed, can it not?

I certainly hope so
Sometimes it can’t be reversed and it progresses

Isn’t cogentin for TD maybe you can go get meds for side effects if there is one

Cogentin is really for EP symptoms not TD

She may put me on Austedo or Ingrezza which are meds that treat TD symptoms

@Vertigo

I’m sorry to hear about the TD. Those meds you mentioned do treat TD, but there is no cure for TD.

See what your pdoc recommends. It has to be scary to change AP after many years, but it may be the better option for your TD.

Don’t worry, you and your pdoc will get this sorted out.

Thanks @Catman
I really appreciate it

@Vertigo doesn’t have TD…yet. Just onset symptoms. Am I correct? I’m quite confident this can be rectified with his Doctor. At least I hope this is so.

My doctor said that I’m at the beginning stages of TD @Patrick

I’m sucking my tongue more and I’m noticing more drooling
Right now it’s intermittent

Just googled this…

Does tardive dyskinesia ever go away?

If you identify the signs of TD early and are able to stop or change your medication, it might eventually go away completely.
