Yeah, I try not to think too much about the past.. but some person posted my sophomore yearbook photo on Facebook in a group so I couldn’t help but start reminiscing
I really liked growing up in the 90’s. I had a whole crew of friends and it was the beginning of the advent of cell phones. When we moved out of town with my family I lost contact with all those who populated my youth. I was popular with the ladies and played a lot of soccer. I would have made different choices if I could go back in time!!
I also try to live in the present, not that it doesn’t kind of suck on the global stage. As much as Led Zeppelin is still my favourite artist, I try to listen to a lot of contemporary 21st century music to help live in the moment. I personally feel that oldies and retro radio stations are one of the biggest banes of the music industry. It’s just so depressing when they keep playing the same songs over and over.
I used to dwell on the past and feelings of regret would increase as a result.
I just finished reading “Change your brain in 365 days” by Dr. Daniel Amen. Among other insightful advice, he made me (more) aware of "ANT"s. No, not the insect. It stands for “automatic negative thought” and these little buggers get stronger by repetition until they can destroy our mood completely and durably. I will try to nip my ANTs in the bud.
I remember being a loner.
walking to school.
thinking about make believe friends.
reading in the library.
thinking about what to wear.
I wasn’t social at all.
kept a low profile.
I liked my teachers.
lunch I would just walk around campus killing time.
I was fascinated with a few other kids throughout junior and high school.
I really was fascinated by another girl who was a loner.
never spoke to her but she never spoke kind of like me.
she made me comfortable. I liked her.
