Risperidone is worsening my OCD!

Ever since I’ve been taking Risperidone, my anxiety and OCD symptoms have gotten worse.

I’m sure of this.

Ive mentioned this to my psychiatrist in the past but she kind of dismissed it.

There are studies on this.

I’m going to mention it to her again in 3 weeks.

There’s not much they can probably do . Unless the OCD is linked to increased anxiety. Or unless they switch meds…

I’m always on edge and I’m almost positive it’s linked to the Risperdal.
But my psychiatrist is reluctant to switch meds.

Risperidone has been very effective in eliminating my delusions.

Switching APs is a crap shoot.

Most APs cause anxiety I’m pretty sure.

@Wave I got this too on respiridone. I thought I was imagining things at the time but you say there are studies on it?

Yes there are studies @anon35166066.

One option that was offered to me for anxiety was combining my main AP (abilify) with low dose seroquel. But as seroquel had previously nearly killed me I was a bit gobsmacked by the offer. But everybody’s different. It might work for anxiety for you.

I took that drug for about a week and it was hell and ended up on Olanzapine.

Yeah. I found respiridone to be a bit too strong for me. It definitely increased my anxiety/obsessiveness whilst I was on it. I now know I am more suited to the ‘pines’ like quetiapine. They were the opposite of respiridone for me.

But if I remember right you had a bad experience with seroquel?

I tried Seroquel and it knocked me out.
I also hallucinated on it.

Have you tried zyprexa at all? That is less anxiety inducing I think.

Yes I have tried Zyprexa.
My blood sugar levels skyrocketed and it caused Hypothyroidism, my last doctor took me off of it.
Same with Seroquel.

Have you tried L-theanine? That could have multiple benefits including reducing anxiety.

No I don’t like taking supplements.
Too worried something will happen.

Gabapentin helped my anxiety - but it can make people hypomanic.

My doctor raised my Depakote to help combat the anxiety but it’s only helping a little.

What about other meds in the respiridone family? Some people find in Vega to be more gentle than respiridone.

I think respiridone can be really effective but it not without side effects.

I had a bad reaction to Invega.
I may ask to be put on a different AP.
I can’t live my life on edge all the time.
Klonopin didn’t even help me when I was on it.
