Results are in!

My dog, Ghost, had a free Embark test done a few months ago, and we just got the results. I’ve been so curious about his breed. I was told Great Pyrenees, but I had my doubts (blue eye, no dewclaws). DNA is looking good on health, but he’s a mix of three breeds, and I had never even heard of one of them!!! We asked Alexa how many of that type (Tatra Sheepdog) were in the US, and it answered around 200-300. That’s it. So… Ghost is 62% Maremma Sheepdog, 24% Great Pyrenees, and 14% Tatra Sheepdog.

He definitely has some Pyr traits- he has that Pyr paw, ignores commands, and is a cuddlebug with his family. Maremma tend not to be cuddly, so I’m glad he has that trait. I need to read more on the other two breeds now. The only time I saw a Maremma in rescue, it was being placed as an outdoor working dog and came with its own flock of sheep!

Ghost looks like he has a lot of Marrema Sheepdog in him.
Marremas are beautiful dogs, very similar to the Great Pyrenees in appearance and temperament.

Marrema Sheepdogs have a longer lifespans than the Great Pyrenees.
