Well, our new puppy is here

She’s an Anatolian Shepherd / Poodle mix. She’s very sweet. My stepdaughter is paying all costs associated with her. Her name is Brownie. I’m afraid to post a pic due to being tracked down via the pic info but she’s already big and will be huge. I will take care of her when my stepdaughter is at school. Her boss said she can take Brownie to work. The only downside to that is that brownie gets car sick. But I’m sure we’ll work it all out

Hope she will get over the car sickness. Bet everyone is already in love with her.

Yeah. She’s not a chewer and is already trained to sit, lie down, come and is house broken. She’s quiet and sweet and walks around visiting everyone

Is this your dog @LilyoftheValley?

Anatolians are serious guard dogs and they require a lot of guidance and hard work.

Good luck with everything

They are majestic dogs

My 2 year old knows no tricks or commands except “NO”.
My 16ish year old always had a knack for language and trained himself. Kind of amazing.

That’s cool you can train your puppy so fast.

@Wave , the dog will officially be my stepdaughter’s dog, but will spend a lot of time with me. We plan to continue training her.

It’s probably a good thing we’ll have a guard dog because we live in a bad neighborhood. I’ve already had a man try to push his way past me into my house when I opened the door on a Halloween night, we’ve had someone break in during the day when we were home, and there’s drug issues going on across the street all day and all night, plus we sometimes hear gun shots.

Do you have any advice on Anatolian Shepherds?

From an article I obtained online

Temperament

Anatolian shepherd temperament

Anatolians are smart, devoted, responsive, and adaptable. They will protect their flock’¿livestock, children, smaller dogs, even the family cat’¿with intensity. Anatolian owners must be strong leaders, willing and able to handle a dog as dominating and demanding as he is calm and loving.

They are usually calm dogs but need strong leadership.

They are definitely not lap dogs

Well she’s also a poodle mix and poodles are also loving dogs

I think that you’ve got a winner there @LilyoftheValley!

Ok. Well, I’ll talk to my husband about being in the leadership role then. He’s a total Alpha male and is good at that. I’m too nice. Especially to dogs. They love me and protect me though. I just talked to him about the need for long term consistent training and early socialization. We need to get this dog straight to the dog park by our house on a daily basis in my opinion.

I think as long as we do everything that Brownie needs us to do for her, she will be an excellent addition to our family. She’s so sweet.

When I first got snowball my Pom, she had motion sickness or nervous stomach or something and threw up the minute I pulled in our driveway after picking her up.

She also threw up the first time we picked her up at the pet store and held her. But my mom fell in love with her so we had to get her.

As she became 100% comfortable with us her nervous stomach and vomiting completely went away.

Except we took her on a plane flight and she got very sick When she was still young and nervous and she ended up in the ER overnight with IVs in her.

Oh wow. Your poor dog! I guess plane rides are out of the picture now

It was when she was still one year old or so. She stayed under the seat with my mom.

She never had to fly again but I think by the age of six she would’ve been fine as she became comfortable as long as she was with one of us.

Snowball and me have done almost 30 1200 mile road trips with each other and she never threw up once on one of those.

That’s great to hear. I’m glad she can go on road trips with you. My new puppy won’t even fit in my car once she’s grown so it’s good my stepdaughter bought herself an suv that can fit a dog. It’s an old one with a lot of miles though so in a couple years she’ll need to be able to afford a new one. Hopefully she can because I know I can’t!
