Restless, want to start school but think I should wait

I applied to a coding bootcamp in my state and classes start beginning of August. Part of me wakes up every day thinking I need to do this for some reason and won’t let me relax. However part of me is just starting not to care anymore. If I can get enough money and housing on disability, why try so hard to work? Maybe it’s better just to have a relaxing and easy life. My parents are helping me out so I could travel with them every year and let’s face it… I’ll never have a normal life…

Tukey how are u in hawaii…preety nice place…

I know that feeling. It is like part of you still wants to make something of themselves. Maybe you could relax if you do something productive. Like study programming before you go to the boot camp.

Hi! Yeah, it’s nice in Hawaii. I’m cooking almost every day and applying for disable housing and disability money… But it’s getting boring here and every day I think “what if I could be working or going back to school.” What I’m doing right now is no way to live… Though the scenery here does make you feel better.

School and work can often be stressful and if your not at the top of your game that can affect you. It’s always a compromise. I don’t work…but that means I have to stay with my parents to survive on disability. It’s a different life but I make it enjoyable.

There’s pros and cons to most decisions…it’s not bad to consider both and make a list. Writing stuff down sinks into my thick skull and helps me concentrate!

Would waiting a year or two before working or returning to school be greatly frowned upon on a resume?

@anon62973308 if I were you I’d go to the class as it seems like you signed up for a reason. It’s best not to wait for these types of things because you may not end up doing them at all. Plus class will help keep your mind active if nothing else and programming is fun if not a good challenge

Programming sounds like a smart idea. You don’t have to get a 9 to 5. You can pick up jobs on mechanical turk, or maybe you’ll write the next big app.

Continuing to learn stuff is really good for your brain.

Are you going into debt for this? Do you think it will be too stressful? If not, it seems like a good thing to do. It doesn’t preclude you applying for disability.

It’s that I’ve developed some cognitive problems that make learning difficult. I also don’t know if I can work afterwards as my last job ended badly. Since I’ve been improving since starting meds I think there’s a good chance my cognitive abilities will return in a year.

Have you dabbled in coding before? I tried a free online course and I didn’t even make it past the first lesson :unamused: but it looks like a lot of fun. I considered it because I know you can work from the safety of your home which would be a huge stress relief.

You can do transcription from home. It’s pretty easy.

Yes. Coding is confusing, some people need some one-on-one tutoring before getting it. You need to have “aha” or “oh” moments as you go along… at least if you take the regular class. I’d recommend doing something thorough so you’re sure you get all the basics.
