Rest Easy (a poem for my cousin who’s dying from cancer

Wrote this last night as a way to vent my feelings a little. A little shook up today by the news about him and I keep having flashbacks. Hopefully tomorrow is a better day. Anyways, here’s the poem.

Tears in my eyes, fists clenched

Choked up, emotionally lynched

Struggling to find words

This reality really disturbs

Didn’t think it’d end this way

Thought I’d see you again someday

As the the sun fades into a long night

Rest easy big cousin, you put up your best fight

One of the best heroic couplets I’ve read on this site. It’s powerful and triumphant, but it is also tragic.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Slow deaths are the most painful to watch. Nothing “reassuring” that I say will make this any easier, so I won’t try. Sometimes, the end just comes too soon. :hugs:
